hi Everyone... I am 18 weeks pregnant with kiddo #2, and am having problems -- on top of *just* finding out that ive got gestational diabetes, im having trouble with my sciatic {sp?} nerves in my hips{have had trouble with my hips for years, never this bad tho}.... the sciatica keep getting inflamed, which causes LOTS of hip pain..., and trouble walking, sitting, standing etc.. then a few nights ago my right hip completely fell out of socket... my DH didnt realize what had happend, and pushed me back on the bed{i coudlnt talk to tell him-- was in to much pain} and when i fell back on the bed, my hip popped back in... now.. my questions are: has anyone else had a similar problem with hips while pregnant? and if so, what helps it? Thanks in advance for any help in this....

No advice, 5PHF, but you certainly have my sympathies and well wishes!

As a guess, I'd think that the hip problem may have something to do with the pelvic bones realigning to prepare for the birth. But I wouldn't expect that to happen so early on in the pregnancy, and you've already had one child. Then again, each time is different. If the baby's of the other sex, for instance, it might be carrying in a different position.

I had that problem with both of my kids, but it didn't start until much later in my pregnancy. I absolutely hated that "wobbly" feeling.

Unfortunatley, I don't think there is much you can do but wait it out.

I'm so sorry!! That's just got to be hell to live through - especially if your son is under 2 or 3, too. LOTS more running to do with the little tots, and lots more lifting.

Has your ob/gyn suggested any yoga or other type of gentle exercise to tone up your muscles in a more flexible way? Sorry, that's the only thing I can think of, outside of seeking accupuncture (since it deals with your nerves). The best of luck to you!! (Feel free to pm me if you want to complain to another mom - I've a boy and girl (3 & 17 mo.), in that order, so I can definately empathize. Some days it seems just a couple of months ago that I had my girl.)

Be well, and remember to rest if you even think you need it.

welp, i guess with normal-structured people it would only happen on the fast growing monthes, but im not normal... ive got a birth defect in my spine.. my L4 & L5 vertebrae are fused, and pulls everything cock-eyed anyway {my legs are 1'' different lengthes due to where they join my hips etc} AND! my sciatic nerves are screwwed with because of that to begin with :(
about my back- theres nothing that can be done but, i didnt experiance this with my son {who is now 3.5}
lol, also, ive had a bunch of people tell me im having a girl cause of it who knows.. not sure if i want a girl.. ok, THAT sounded bad.. truthfully i dont mind what it is.. as long as healthy and happy.. i just get sick sometimes when i see the clothing thats for sale for toddlers and young girls... horrible stuff... lol, theres not a trip to the mall that doesnt have my SO saying at some point "thank god i dont have a girl....." or "theres no way MY daughter would leave the house looking like that"

i HAVE found that if i take a warm bath it relaxes things.. but baths, and growing bellies {not to mention shifting centers of gravity} dont mix really well... so im sure that im going to have to stop that soon.. plus have to do it whne hubbys here just incase i cant get up... how sad is that...
anyway enough rambling for now... thanks for the input!! :)

welp, your right..not much fun ;) but its ok, cause i get to be lazy sometimes..let the dh do it..lol... {im not hurting right now.. in a pretty good mood}

nope my OB is a quack i think... not sure if he knows which end is up.. but hes the one im stuck with cause of my stupid military health care... ok its not THAT bad. but sometimes its frustrating.. and they dont cover anything non-mainstream...
i will definately be finding to you chat sometime..... feel free to add me to your messangers if you want.. ive got 3 lol... anyway.. enough for now.. hubby wants to go to bed.. :)

My 2 cents -- i've never been PG, but you may want to check out webmd.com -- they've got a GREAT message board (am trying to get PG so.... :) )

First of all, congratulations! :D

Secondly...I can't give you advice about the hip thing, since it never happened to me. I had moments, while carrying each of my children, when my legs seemed to just 'give out' on me...almost dumping me to the ground. But I'm not sure if it was just a balance thing or a joint/ligament thing.

But if you have any questions about gestational diabetes, I'm more than happy to help you with that. :) I went through that with both of my children, including the shots four times a day and the testing practically every hour. It was hellish, but the result of all those needles is two healthy children and my OWN health, so am I complaining? No way.

I'm sure all will turn out well for you. :) And again...CONGRATS!

First off congrats!

I am currently 29 weeks pregnant with # 3 and I can sympathise with your pain. I also have had some pretty serious hip problems with each pregnancy but nothing like what I went thru during the last trimester with this one.
I spoke with my OB- who is not a quack, but I do feel your pain as I was a military dependant with my first daughter- and she said that with gestational diabetes ( which I am also suffering with) we tend to have larger babies and they overcrowd the uterus much faster during the months of heavy growth. This puts pressure on the sciatic nerve and it makes it sometimes agonizing to walk or sit for more then a few minutes. I wouldn't be suprised to hear that you are short waisted also. With shorter waisted women the space in the uterus is even less to start with and if the baby grows quickly it can throw off your balance, breathing and much more.
She also told me that the ligaments in the pelvis spread and stretch much earlier in subsequent pregnancies then in firsts and this stretching of the pelvic muscles to prepare for birth is often very painful.

You can try tylenol to relieve the aches, but I have found it to be exceedingly ineffective. Generally a hot shower will help. My OB does not allow long soaks in a hot tub so I don't have that option. Other then that there isn't much relief out there. I stretch as much as possible and gripe alot but I keep reminding myself that it won't last forever. I can tell you that it eases up a bit during the last trimester, but other then that sweetie it's another of the grin and bear it " joys" of expectant motherhood.

I DONT WANNA!!!! {grin and bear it that is..lol} actually all things considered, its been hell, but ive got lots of help... my DH is pretty good, and one of our friends checks on me 4 or 5 times aweek, just to see if i need him {yes a HIM!!!!} to do anything for me... hehe, ive had the guys doing dishes... laundry... vaccuuming... :) kinda nice...
the pain DOES get pretty bad... and it makes me very very tired :( so shopping trips etc have been pretty quick.. its ok, just means i can catch up on christmas presents {everybodys getting cross stitches this year i think...} anyway.. thanks for the input... this helps a bunch, just to know theres people out there that understand what im going thru {trying to explain it to the men.. well thats not the easiest thing to do!}

*****OOPS! i forgot to log off hubbys name... aah well, i think its time for bed!******

No PROBLEM!!!!:D
Glad I could be of some help.

You're a lucky duck to have the guys helping you out so much. I have a 9 and 3 y/o to race after, plus I'm still working full time and hubby and I are on opposing schedules all but 3 days of the week.:rolleyes:
I just keep crossing those weeks off the calendar and doing the countdown. Come on Dec.....Come on Dec!!! (As long as I don't end up having her X-mas week :eek: ) Other then that I just use it as my free pass to bitch and moan...lol. I think I've scared my oldest off ever having children!:rolleyes:
