Today I have received news that I have been accepted to the University of California, Riverside. After years of hard work, driving my mother nuts with my neurotic tendencies and starving myself doing those last minute cram sessions for a test, I have been accepted.

Now I just get work harder.;)

bah college.

what was said in goodwill hunting?

you could get a better education in 5 dollars in late fees from the public library.

but of course i'm going for that lil piece of paper that means shit to me other then i wasted a bunch of fucking money to find out that my job just wants to completely retrain me.

Thanks DrEaMwEaVeR GaL. UCR has an excellent Political Science program, which is my major.

sorry ... i ment congradulations. you did well. getting into a good school is important. specially for your future. though i know nothing about the school.

good luck and study hard. dont be fouled because the first year of college is rather easy. it goes down hill from there. make sure you stay focused and you'll do fine. theres lots of pressures when you leave home. no one to set you down to do your homework, no one to push you that extra step. no one to keep you from partying on the sunday before finals. becareful, you will face an insane amount of peer pressure if you live in campus housing. if you live at home, it'll be alot like high school.

I wish you the best of luck.

Thank you, but I'm actually tranferring in as a junior. I did most of the General Ed stuff at a local community college. I saved a ton of money finishing it at PCC and can now dedicate myself to Political Science.

good to hear. i'll buy you a beer when you turn 21... unless you took some time off.

just be warned :) peer pressure sucks, but its very real

Thanks but I'm 24 and have already had my alcohol for the evening. I took some time off after high school.

So untrue! College was the best 6 1/2 years of my life!

And I don't know about the libraries in your part of the world, but I can't think of anyplace else in the world that I could so regulary flirt with the marvels of alcohol poisoning in the safe and nurturing environment.

If you are going to college to learn something cast in stone, go to trade school. The primary purpose of college is to teach you how to think, to expose you to other people and cultures, and to provide an opportunity to explore new outlets and try new things. Learning is not supposed to be static.

Congratulations WK, and I applaud you! There is no bloody way that I could have gone to school in a warm climate; I'd be selling italian ice on the beach today if I had. I went to my interview at the University of Hawaii, took one look at the beach, and called home and explained to my parents that if they were going to send me there, they might as well just let me get an hourly job and buy me a Porsche; I was as likely to go to class on a regular basis as I was to write the next book of the bible!

Thanks Bob Peale. Riverside is close to the desert and since I live in Southern California, I'm prretty used to the hot weather. I may bitch about it in school, but I like it. :)

...and if you can avoid it, don't take one (Pol, Phil.) your first semester, I don't know about UCR, but the one here is a 100 level class, but it's harder than most of my 300 levels. Good luck!

I'm starting out as a junior and I learned that lesson in PCC. Though I don't think I learned it all that well considering I'm taking Comparative Government and Logic this semester.

yeah i took a phil 101 class... when i had to contemplate if the table exists or not for an hour i dropped the class

Well, you heard it from me already, but I'll post it here:

You worked damned hard, and I'm very proud of you.

Now, I'm going to go rest my ears. I'm sure the echoes of the happy shrieks will fade away eventually.
