A potential black vs. black civil war in South Africa on the horizon?:

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...in-clashes-with-malema-followers-2346565.html

Split in ANC between supporters of radical ANC "youth league" leader Julius Malema (a 30-year old "youth") and the ANC leadership including Presiden Jacob Zuma appears ready to spill into open violence.

Unhappy with the state of poverty among the masses of the black population, Malema and his supporters have been pushing for a large scale nationalization of key economic sectors including the lucrative mining industry, banks, and Zimbabwe style seizures of white owned farms. Zuma and the ANC leadership support a continued largely free market approach. The final straw seems to have been Malema's attacks on the democratically elected pro-western pro-US government in Botswana and his vocal support for rebels fighting to overthrow it.

I wonder if the US would allow a large scale nationalization such as Malema is proposing in a key region of the world such as South Africa as well as the hardline radical policies he represents. Whatever happens, the ANC leadership election is next year, and the "youth league" wants Zuma replaced. It remains to be seen if Zuma and the old guard will allow that to happen or resort to violence to maintain power.

My guess is that this could become another US war if Malema and the radicals gain power. I don't believe US and western financial interests would allow it to happen. I'm no fan of anti-white extremists like Malema or of nationalization (though I can see some arguments for it in the SA context), however I worry more about US involvement in yet another far flung country.

I know this is far fetched, but what about the possibility that such a conflict could allow whites to seize control again in resultant chaos? Unlikely, but events can take unexpected turns. You know the US would never allow that and would intervene in that scenario for sure, then we have a major war on our hands.

Your first two guests this evening Ambassodor Bolton and Candidate Santorum and now VP Cheney; this is important journalism; thank you.

I Post that because Ambassador Bolton addressed the turmoil in Africa and the lack of direction in American Foreign Policy and proposed cuts to the Defense Department.

Bolton ripped into Obama as a President that does not place importance on Foreign Policy and does not see the US as the prime mover in world events.

Bolton accused Obama of Isolationism and having the mind set that if the US just backs off of involvement in world affairs and withdraws our military influence around the world, that things will calm down and everyone will get along.

Africa is about to explode, and not just SA, North Africa may well become a radical militant Muslim force that only a major military invasion can confront in any meaningful way.

This is a perilous time in world history and we do not have the leadership in place to deal with it.

My thoughts...

Right, Obama is an "isolationist," that's why we're in three wars and have troops in at least 70 countries around the world.

Though that he really were, we'd all be better off. Put America first, and leave the rest of the world ALONE.

Excellent sentence structure.

I don't know why the current story about Julius Malema aren't part of the US news cycle. I'll venture a guess that the story would do nothing for ratings.

This in one of many reasons I record and watch BBC World News (not BBC News America). It's wonderful having access to a new program that doesn't edit content based on ratings or how many comercial slots the sales dept needs to fill.

As a side (though related) rant/question;
Does anyone else find it hilarious that the top prize in journalism (Pulitzer) is named after the guy that created the business model of journalism which values delivering an audience to advertizers more than it does informing the public?

Nationalization of private industry?

Like that's ever worked out.

It's not news because the left leaning media thinks it's just peachy to nationalize private businesses. They don't report much on Venezuela either.

The Left is not about to go back and examine the fruits of their great success in ending apartheid any more than they will examine the outcomes of the Arab Spring as they unfold. Victory has already been declared.

Now, if a REPUBLICAN assumes office, then they have a scapegoat and we will hear a lot about how unprepared the stupid rw-Christian clown was to take on world affairs...

Julius Malema. All the way. The human blight known as the Boer scourge has had this coming for decades.

I'm guessing one of the sides is Muslim, because the news did not mention it.

My friends, President Zuma isn't going to fall. The ANC has the backing of the majority, and as a zulu he also has backing despite their differences from Prince Buthelezi. There are problems but compared to the rest of africa this is paradise. Free press multiple political parties, a large educated african population. The Afrikaners are not all thrilled but they have to much at steak.
I have been there, there has been full disablity inclusion for 50 years.
They are working out a free society, don't panic

Just so you know, posting personal data of any kind, including email addresses is against Lit's T&C's.

I do not, but what many Americans now think goes something like this:

We have saved the lives of the people of Southeast Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. In order to slow down the Global Warming caused by the recipients of our help's burning our flag, many of us have come to the realization that the best world is one where each group deals with its own problems and neighbors from a national Darwinistic framework. Feast, famine, or flood: We'll keep our help, you keep your hatred.

Just think, if the CIA hadn't backed the rebels in Afghanistan against the Russians.....what our world would look like today. Can the USA just stay OUT of other people's business?
