Postings on GB vs. PG

Why is it that people who generally post on the GB hates people postings from the PG? But, vice versa, people in the PG rarely (or never) insults people from the GB?

Is there a different criteria?

I am not sure of the answer, however, I do know that it does NOT matter where a person posts--be it on whatever board--to me. Because I have friends in the PG, does it mean that I would be considered a lowlife on the GB? Possibly, but I treat others the way I wish to be treated and if somebody has a narrow-minded attitude about where I post...it is their problem and not mine. There are very good people on ALL the boards here, and I treat everyone the same. If what they call "The Clique" wants to have that attitude, then fine...far be it from me to dissuade them from their beliefs. I was taught at a young age not to argue with a fool, because they may be doing the same thing. The prevailing attitude in the PG is to have fun, not bitch about how big a sig line is, how many emoticons are used, etc.

OK...off my soapbox for now--any flames? PM them to me--I have big shoulders and can handle it. AA

I've wondered the same thing, FG. I post in both places and don't really understand the seeming animosity. In my opinion, both boards have a decidedly different feel. The Playground seems to have more of a 'chat room' feel to it, where people tend to carry on conversations with one another, come back to the same conversations and so on. The GB tends to have threads that are fewer pages, and where people tend to express more personal opinion on many different things, and have heated discussions.

I don't think there is one that is any better than the other. Just different.

I agree with NZ,definitely two completely different places, yes I mostly stick to thr PG because i enjoy the chat element over here, but i do like to check out the GB now and again, if you sort of take it all with a pinch of salt then its quite amusing really*L*

Agreed Neffie...and with the worldwide diversity of personalities that accumulate in the totality of Lit, different areas are bound to have a different feel. Maybe I need to query somebody from the GB to find out why the attitude exists that PG people aren't 'worthy' of posting on the GB. I AM curious...AA

you well know MY personal disgust of the TROLLS from GB , however I do NOT think Everyone over there is BAD, cause God only knows there are more than a few ppl at Pg that dont like me as well , no bother tho , as I said I have PLENTY of friends and will continue to wish good luck ,love and happiness to ALL , no matter what, I have MUCH better things to do with my time than to JUDGE or ridicule others,thats why *I* can sleep well at night .. lol (huggs sweetness)

LOL Neffie. BTW--I saw you try to feed me that drugged coffee and chocolate bar, too. (There are many intelligent and nice people on the GB...you just have to see through the bluster...same with the PG.)

I think "hate" is a rather harsh word to use, quite frankly. I probably post more to the GB than the PG, though really not all that much to either one. Of the two, I far more prefer the GB.

Why? Easy. If I want chatroom banter, I'll go to a chat room. I come to the BBs looking for topics of substance, things that make me think, people who can challenge me and learn different opinions. I don't do the flirting thing online well at all. In fact, I've never understood why people do it. Not that I consider is bad or anything, just something I don't do well and stay clear of.

The attitude of most of the people on the GB towards the PG is that this place is more superficial - which it is. Most threads here are flirtatious, or soon become so, as the above banter proves. If a serious topic is introduced here, it doesn't stay on topic for long. Folks usually end up playing kissy face with the computer - and that just bugs those of us who would like to have a serious discussion.

Also, the extraordinary sig lines, and all the flashing, spiraling stuff grates on some people. (Like me) The GB looks at the use of putting tons of pictures, individual's names flashing, and links to what are considered personal conversation threads as a bit immature. Is it? Who knows. I just know all the flashing, splashy sig lines irritate the hell out of me, and usually bypass those folks who have them without reading what they have to say. Also, the heavy use of emoticons, as well as being everyone's "sis" or "bro" or "honey" or "sweety" or <add your own endearment> rings hollow and false. Yes, I understand that people truly develop friendships here - I have more than a few myself. But I feel the need to constantly use endearments towards those people cheapens the relationship by adding a measure of sacharin to the mix. Again, folks, my personal opinion here. And might be most of the GB as well.

There is also a tendency for folks from the PG to not visit the GB and contribute unless/until one of their own is "attacked" - then half the PG comes to the rescue, criticizes, puts down, and makes nasty comments towards and about the GB and then disappear, en masse. (So, yes, folks from the PG have been known to make more than a hateful comment or two regarding the GB - and it is not just "rarely")

The two boards are simply different. And they each satisfy a need for people. Period. One is not better than the other. It's all about where people feel good. And, just for everybody's information, I do not know of a single person who posted to the GB and was "accepted" right away. There is always a "trial by fire" to see what a person is made of and whether they are some one to be taken seriously. Hell, I posted there quite a few times before anyone even acknowledged one of my posts! And I can still remember the first thread I started where folks actually responded - and it wasn't the first, second, or third! However, once people on the GB have accepted who you are, they will defend you no matter what. They are loyal, and many of them have had friends going back 3 years or more. Many have met each other in r/l, and several have even met Laurel and Manu.

It can be a tougher crowd to play to, yes. But once you know you are in the door, so to speak, you know you are accepted for who you really are. Does that happen here? Perhaps. I don't know. I don't get involved with all the flirting and banter, so I don't know how seriously people really take each other here. Again, like a chatroom. I go in there and get buddy-buddy, but as soon as the computer is shut off, those people are just part of my entertainment for the evening. It's not real, it's complete fantasy. The GB is more "real" to me.

Anyway, that's my opinion.

For the Most part I can agree with the above post except for the FACT that in MY reality , here at Playground, I have met or talked to ppl in REAL LIFE and This place is no more FANTASY than anywhere else at Lit is ,in my opinon, Playground DOESNT have to 'get off' at making hurtful comments or statements about ppl or unborn babies, Not that I have read anyways and I dont have to think I am any 'smarter or more'intellectual than anyone else(cause I AM just as smart) ..I KNOW I am JUST AS GOOD (if not BETTER)than alot who post at the GB !! Facts can back me up!!

JMHO and you can like it or not ,I still own it!!

For me, I find something in both places. There are a lot of folks on the GB that I'd love to get to know better, and it is more difficult to break in over there, but that's ok too.

Different threads for different folks. I find myself flirting here, being more serious there. Nothing wrong with either.

A bit of variety is good, and life is too short to take everything too seriously! we all need some time to be serious, some time to be flirty and sometime to be humourous, you find different places to express your different feelings, thoughts and emotions.

Not been around long, but the threads here seem to be more about fun and games, although many of the threads are so huge with so many replies it's a little intimidating.

But in the General Board many of the threads seem to be political screaming matches, or else these impassioned treatises on how one member was slighted by another member, complete with footnotes.

I really don't agree with what Chele was saying about the GB, for the most part. I don't know her, or anything, I just have my own opinions about the GB. I stopped posting over there mainly because I got tired of the venom being slung around over there. There is so much negativity, I can't take it. Its like there are so many people over there looking to pick a fight. I also think that alot of the people on the GB are pretentious a**holes, to be perfectly honest. And there are some serious delusions of grandeur going on over there! I am not saying everyone, just some of them. I can understand not liking someone, but what is the point in trying to totally annihilate someone? I have seen some really nasty, hateful things said to people I really didn't think deserved it. There are a few people that I find basically annoying, but I don't want to see them have their self esteem crushed...That's just harsh! I don't feel the need to be excepted by those people. Its just a stupid clique, like in high school. A bunch of people with bad attitudes thinking they are some how superior to other people. I post to the PB because the people are nice and they don't go around acting superior to everyone else...in a nutshell...they are grownups and if they don't have anything nice to say, they keep their mouths shut...

Would like to add to HHG's post that no one has ever been rude to me in PG - not even since when I started my first post here. Actually, people went out of their way (and still do) giving all kinds of informative links, threads etc. to help out a 'newbie'... vs. the GB - where they all PM each other with the headline such as "Fresh Meat" and ridicule you... Sigh....

As far as too many emoticons, sig lines or pics, hell - just don't look at them
