Posting time for story files submitted...

Hello all:

I have been a Literotica reader for many years and finally decided to start submitting stories. I have submitted the first chapter of a story as a '.doc' file, about a week ago. It has yet to be posted. My question is, 1. How long does it usually take for a file to be posted? 2. If it is rejected or for some other reason not posted, then is the author notified? 3. Is there any way to know if the file even arrived where it was supposed to go? The story is an episode in a, possible series, about a werewolf pack that offers volunteer public services such as search and rescue and disaster relief. This "episode", (first story), is about a search and rescue mission and mostly takes place in the wilderness and has a very soft sexual content. I submitted the file as an MS Word file because, I had used italicized text to indicate weres communicating telepathically. The submitted file included a '.jpg' file, which is a fanciful map of the search area, and is intended to help clarify some of the scenes in the story. Nothing has been posted, and I was wondering if it might have been rejected or if it, just takes a very long time for it to be placed on the web site.

Thanks,

Sounds like a complicated submission where several things could have gone wrong. Your most assured approach from here is to PM (Private Message--top right of your screen) the editor, Laurel (that's the PM address), and ask her for a status update on your submission, giving her the title of your story.

1. How long does it usually take for a file to be posted?
Usually 2-3 days

2. If it is rejected or for some other reason not posted, then is the author notified?
You will see in in your submissions panel. It will read "Rejected" instead of "Pending". If you click on it, you will see the reason. If you disagree with it, you may write in the comment why you disagree and post again.
Do not try to argue the rules though. You may argue if, for example, the reject reason says it has underage sex, and you have no such thing in the story. Or if ir says you have snuff and mutilation and you have none.

3. Is there any way to know if the file even arrived where it was supposed to go?
It reads "Pending" in your submissions section. They will quickly reject it if there's something wrong.

he submitted file included a '.jpg' file, which is a fanciful map of the search area, and is intended to help clarify some of the scenes in the story.
You can't do that. You will need to remove the images from your story and upload them as a separate item in your submissions section.

It happened to me once that the status was "not submitted" (rather than pending/rejected/approved). I think something went wrong with the uploading process. The solution, in this case, as it turns out: click on the word "not submitted", and you will be taken to the uploading page. Upload your file again.

Or you could directly contact the editor, who can look at what the actual problem is and directly help you get it resolved.

Few days; I too submit using Word. This one time, though, it took like 10 days for a fairly innocuous story of mine. She might be busier than normal prioritizing contest entries right now; who knows?

Sr71plt has the only real solution: PM Laurel.

Thanks to all that answered. I can see that I have much to learn, here. This isn't as straight forward as one might hope. I just did go back and click the "pending" button and noted a bold letter note that file was impossible to post and to down load it and convert it. I converted it from a Word .doc file to an OpenOffice .odt file and resubmitted it. We will see if that solves the problem. If not, then, I'll keep trying.

Do I understand that, if loaded as a 'cut and paste .txt file', it loads directly to the web site? It may be worth reworking the files to obviate the hand loading process and find a work around for the italicized text. I did not remove the .JPG file attachment as nothing was said about it. How are all of the links and story indices generated?

.doc is completely fine.
your problem was probably the image attached to it.

Not straight to the website, no. Every story goes through Laurel as site editor to vet content. Loading a .txt file, as I understand it, reduces the amount of work she (or her bots) have to do to ready the file for posting. In your case the jpg file will slow the process right down.

Indexing is done by Laurel as part of the posting process. You can put in ten tag words.

Actually, I think the .jpg file would stop it. It now becomes a story with pictures which only posts a couple of times a month at most.

Also, if you include picture in your story...you HAVE to submit it in the Illustrated category. If it's a photo you must have the copyright. If they(Laurel) thinks the image is not yours, it will be rejected out of hand.
