What happened to the good old days of the playground? The old PG'ers will know what I talk about. We used to have some fairly good discussion threads. Now you open the forum and on the first page all you see is thread after thread dedicated to nothing other than improving ones post count. These threads have taken over and quickly knock any discussion thread back several pages to where unless one searchesfor it, it can't be found.
I could care less if someone wants to play a game, but when games are only being started in the interest of post counts you have taken away from the vitality of this thread. You have leant yourselves over to the ridicule that makes you start threads such as Playgrounder and Proud Of It. I'm not saying you shouldn't be proud of friendships forged here, this forum holds many good people, but damn if the airhead post commandos don't make this place something from an airheaded twit convention.
I did enjoy coming over here once upon a time. As I stated before the old PG'ers know what I mean. In fact I'm willing to bet that they'll come in concurring with some of my opinions and then the airheads will be here too....jumping in, whining, and proving why this place is becoming detested by anyone that looks for some serious discussion.
Carry on...whine...bitch...and maybe...somewhere in all of that bitching...some of you may actually lend yourselves to a serious discussion. Do you really need so many post count promoting threads over here? Is that what this place is about? Post counts??

Well, I've only been at Lit just over a year and I have to say, there is something amiss on the PG. I see some personality traits that are far from becoming and I've stopped posting in many threads.

I enjoy word games, etc. but I've grown tired lately. It is no secret that I like to talk....... (please don't gasp). I'd rather have discussions and participate in a few threads, such as John Robert's Philosophy thread and I started a thread for 'pondering' (I am a chronic ponderer - most likely it is terminal). There was an excellent thread about Defining Love and some other threads that have gone to the Lit heavens. I'd like to see some of the camaraderie and good will return.

I enjoy the How To forum very much and the GB has grown on me - there really are some funny and interesting folks there too. Maybe some of the bickering between the GB and PG caused a rift that permeated the fun.

I know there are times mindless posting is what I want, but more often I'd just rather talk with others - it is more interesting to me to get to know others. Kind of like sitting on the porch on a Sunday, relaxed and easy going. I hope that can return...

Cathleen, thank you. A very good post indeed. There are times many of us do look for a little mindless fun, but for me...and I know many others...I can't just be mindless all the time. I crave discussion...I love opinions and the way they differ. I just hate seeing all the good threads over here relegated to the 'Lit Heavens' as you've stated. The next thing is why? I think each of the forums have their good and bad...but it's getting to the point that I avoid the PG like the plague...and that's sad..because I miss some of those I had good discussions with.

I understand - too well I suppose.

Humm, why? That is tough to answer. I think there are many reasons, and certainly different reasons for each person. I know for me it is the mindlessness at times. Yea, it's fun to blow off some stress with some playtime but I guess I don't need much of that before I'm ready to have a discussion.

One thing that has really bothered me here is what I can only describe as an undercurrent of unfriendly and sometimes down right mean actions. Recently I noticed something that sure looked like sticking the knife in and twisting it.

I don't know... but it isn't fun to see.

(btw, feel free to call me Cate if you'd like.)

I have really one word to say - this place is called the

PLAYGROUND.

Funny, I always thought a playground was a place for fun and games not deep and meaningful debate. There is probably also a higher proportion of game threads within it since the moderators switched stuff from personals etc.

Also, there are plenty of "discussion" threads. Have you been in UK Readers recently. The conversation often goes over the head of this "airhead" (10 'o' levels and 2 'a' levels).

Lit is a place to have fun, make new friends and for many an escape from the stress and hassles of "real life". If we all wanted deep and meaningful the world would be full of politicians!!

And one final point. Stand up and be counted PGerGoneGBer. If you have something to say why use a an ALT!!

Playgrounder, loud, proud and unashamed!!

:nana: :nana: :nana: :nana: :nana:

bluefoxlady, thank you for posting as well. I see you raised a point that the UK thread quite often has some serious discussion. How am I, perusing thread titles, to know when a good discussion is taking place in there? I'm not about to come over here and open every thread to see if something good is being talked about.
I also realize that this place is called a Playground. Do you really want a place that you defend likened to a play place? Adults have other haunts for when they want fun and in each of those haunts you have a little bit of everything...play, seriousness...and the proverbial fights I admit, but I for one wouldn't be heralding the playground to be just that. It detracts...and is reminiscent of schoolyard antics we've all outgrown.
Now you've stated that this place is not for deep and meaningful debate, but I have to disagree. Each place is what one makes of it, and over the years...since we split from the personals forum somewhat, this place is slowly going downhill into the mentality of a true play yard. I for one...as an old reg to the Pg detest that mentality. It would be nice to bring this back to a place of friendly discussion without all the ripping, slams, and flames that takes place on other forums here.
As to your remark about stand up and be counted...it does not matter what mask I choose to wear here, or there....they are all masks and masks do not detract from words or their intent.

If you want serious discussion, go to the Author's Hangout...

...good luck getting yourself into the clique.

If I was worried about 'cliques' I'd be posting under my usual nick here. This is not about 'cliques' or anything of that nature. I seriously miss and abhor the direction that the playground has been taking over the last couple of years.

Serious discussion threads in the GB, such as

1) Countdown to my birthday
2) Say you found a can of coke in your pocket
3) We have got Parrotheads, Dead Heads, Gearheads - what other "heads" do we have here?
4) okay so I'm rolling a joint...whos gonna keep me entertained??
5) Would you like a visit from the chocolate fairy?

shall I go on?????

Honey, you don't want me to seriously start comparing threads from each of these two forums do you? The PG far outshines and outweighs any other forum here with their mindless thread topics. How many threads are made over here discussing world events and opinions? Very few. For every mindless thread the PG offers, the GB offers an equal thread open to discussion on many issues culled from what is going on in the world around us.

Evening PGerGoneGBer.
As I've only been on the Lit for a few months - I can't argue about how "The Playground" has degenerated. But to me a "Playground" is where you go to play and if you want to discuss things in greater detail then use another board.
There is plenty to go around.

Yes there are plenty of simple games but then again what else can you do? I see you cannot use HTML code in threads/replies (does anybody know why? The option is always turned off) and you cannot do much with the VB codes supplied.

Anyway I digress.

In my short time postings across many of the threads, I have come across many cliques and you feel slighty out of it when trying to reply. There is certainly a lot of "I've got red socks and I hate people wearing green socks" - I suppose, an attitude that mirrors real life.

But then again I have met lots of grand people and hopefully made some long lasting friendships, crossing many continents.

I just find it a shame that Lits cannot get on with each other. We should appreciate that this Lit forum & website is FREE and that a lot of people have spent a lot of time coding and moderating the place. Though I think Moderators should make themselves more visible.

We should post a big thread and say thank you to them for this opportunity to play games or ruminate on the facts of life.

You did say "I did enjoy coming over here once upon a time." Well I hope we don't have to say that about the whole Lit site.

In all seriousness.....does it really matter? Lit in and of itself is for whatever you want out of it. If you want serious conversation, put those threads in your favorites and bring them back up, pretty simple actually. If you want fun and games do the same. I fail to see any reason to make a big issue out of it. I've seen some threads on the GB board about the amount of peoples posts, really now, don't you have something better to do than count peoples posts per day? I see nothing wrong with any of the boards...they post just as silly in the GB as we do in the PG, they just don't use emoticons...but really...who cares? Post if you want....don't if you don't want to. Read if you want to....don't read if you don't want to......Quite simple actually.

G'Day to all

i don't see a problem. if you want a good discussion, go to the gb. if you're in the mood for some mindless fun, come to the pg. it's about time this muck throwing stops. or hasn't anyone noticed a lot of the more interesting posters have disappeared over the past month or two? why is that, do you think?

this is lit, for fuck's sake. there should be room for anyone.

Most of the interesting PG'ers have gone the route of the GB...<gasps> some have even changed their nicks to hide the evidence of playgrounderism from searches.

G'Day to all

It is quite simple. I choose not to read the trivial bullshit that has taken over the PG and it is why I generally post over on the GB now. That does not mean I can't miss some of the good discussions that took place over here. I've been around the net for quite some time. I've been through my share of flames and so on, which is why I welcomed the PG at first. Discussion without all the bullshit name calling and puffing out of the chests that can be common place on the GB.

and some of them have come back, new or old nick. and others have vanished alltogether. you can find them on other discussion boards. playing together nicely. this is an endless discussion. you can either feed the feud or help it die.

No it wasn't really to start a comparison, more a sarcastic

"people who live in glass houses should not throw stones"
