Posting angry

I have to keep reminding myself not to post angry, not to debate. It isn't worth it, I say to myself, don't get drawn in. It is like picking at a scab, and not the fun sort of scab that is separated by only a small piece of nearly dead skin on one edge. No this scab is the sort that hurts to touch, but has one corner that sticks up a little. That when you try to pry it up a little more it starts bleeding again. The sort that you know will get infected if you keep picking, but it gnaws on your consciousness.

I like posting to political threads. I just take the most radical points of view from both sides and post as if they're my opinions.

"If you don't believe in God, you're not patriotic. Oh, and Liberals should be shot on sight."

"If I had a choice between saving trees or people, I'd save trees. Also, I like having gay sex in public."

I would save trees too, because I hate people not because I like trees. And liberals should not be shot on sight, they should be given a ten second head start.

I've said that to myself a lot. What I do is put up one of my "sexy" AV's when I'm tempted--who takes a disembodied pair of boobs seriously anyway? That way it keeps me from posting in those threads.

I think they should all be put on an island. They could call it 'Pussy Island', and not because of the amount of promiscuous women there. The gun-crazy conservatives could shoot at them from helicopters.

I always knew there was a reason I didn't like you. :D

Just a few people on the ignore list will clear quite a lot of it away. I don't ignore those people in threads-- but mostly the only start political threads anyway.

I've only ever had one person on my ignore list -- well, him and his alts -- I figure it this way: if I can't suppress my own angry outbursts, what good am I?

Besides, in those threads, all I see are the same circular arguments and the same two people trying to impress each other.

And those clowns are scary. ;)
I'd be more afraid of dying by accidental drowing in a pile of elephant poop.
Although, the ideal situation would be to have the clowns drowing in said poop.
That way, everyone wins.

Yeah, there's no point in posting to political threads. Depending on the poster, you can pretty much predict everything that he/she is going to say. "My political views are superior! Here's why! And now I'll end with some pretentious remark about people who don't agree with me!"

We've seen it all before. I prefer to make sarcastic remarks in such threads. It's so much more fun.

I blame it all on boredom. I never posted on the political threads until I found myself with all this extra free time. Then I found myself lured by shifting parameters despite my better judgment. I kept clicking and clicking, and posting, and arguing... until I was saved by my AV trick.

Yeah--and then the elephants can step on their heads. In the center ring. :D

Well, I generally have an easy time not posting (or even not reading to begin with) in the politcal threads. But so many threads start innocent enough and end up turning into political debates.

Besides, I'm a beaver, if I don't gnash my teeth they will grow through my skull and kill me.

Thankfully it's the internet, where speech is as free as accountability. You can quote me on that.

Never post when you are mad.

Never post when you are tired.

Never post when you are drunk.

Never post when you are full of shit.

Why do I keep forgetting. :(

Hmmmm, a guessing game! Let me see, who could that be? :catroar:

I enjoy the threads to a point, but since I'm in the minority around here, they do get old pretty fast. I take some time off when I catch myself taking them too seriously. Let's be honest, if anyone here had something relevant to offer the world, they wouldn't be wasting their time posting their breakthrough ideas on a porn board (or it would be the biggest waste of energy ever). I don't mind the disagreements, I like to know other people's opinions. Sometimes they even get me to change my mind, we do have a wide variety of backgrounds and experience among the Lit members. It's pretty common to catch myself saying, "I didn't know that." Just don't tell any of the Liberals. :D

We already know, Des.

Have a nice day.

Spoken like a man whose opinions vary as the opinions in the room. "I like them, but since you guys don't seem to, uh... they suck. Sometimes."

I find my own thoughts and ideas sharpened by honing them against others who view things differently. It saddens me that some of the best at this appear constitutionally unable to not engage in personal attacks. Being the target on a regular basis has sensitized me, and if I ever did that before I don't do so now, at least not deliberately, except in retaliation to one leveled at me, and then I try at least to make rejoinders a little bit clever.

If everyone took seriously the precept that civility requires always according the other the presumption of good will then these debates would be much more pleasant, profitable and interesting.

I heard a news report of some study recently, that people who are all hot and bothered and contentious about political issues (like me, sadly) are actually happier than those who are not, but in pursuing their avocation they make everyone else slightly less happy. IOW, we politicals on all sides are a form of human pollution.

But then the study author was probably some liberal pinko and you can't believe anything they say anyway, having gay sex with trees in public and all.

Just the opposite. It just gets annoying constantly being in arguments with your friends. The choices are to not express opinions, or to do so knowing I'll get jumped on by people who I normally get along great with (and I'd rather not be angry at).

:D Perfect answer to all studies whose conclusions I do not like. I hope you don't mind if I borrow this!

Perfect. The trees are safe; the gay sex is clean; the animals are happy; the clowns are dead.
