Two days in a row I have been nailed trying to post, (like lost internet explorer and had nice things I did not want added to my hard drive)and one of those days was in this very forum. I also have Pop up blockers and the latest greatest fun web technologies my money can buy and still I get advertisement at lit (especially cupons for food?)in stories and especially in the how to Forum I wrote to Laurel and I know what Lit stands for but I will let you all read it from Laurel's words.

Hi there,

Here's some info. You can post it, or pass it along to anyone who is in need.

I'm sorry about the problem you are having. I wish it was the first time that we've heard about these programs that take over people's browsers, but it's getting more and more common.

Literotica.com does not use pop-up advertising on any part of the site, nor do we - nor have we ever - installed ANYTHING on ANYONE'S computers. Some programs, such as Kazaa, install ad software on your computer which creates these pop-ups. For more information and a link to software to help detect Spyware and other bad stuff, please go here:

http://www.literotica.com/support/nopopups.shtml

The full link to the software on that page can be found here:

http://doxdesk.com/parasite/

If you've used that service and you're still having problems, you may want to check these links:

http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/hijacked/
http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/

The article and software above should be able to help you the most, but you might also want to read the following:

http://patrick.kolla.de/
http://computing.net/windowsxp/wwwb...orum/65247.html

To prevent this in the future, you may want check this description of the exploit:
http://msn.mcafee.com/virusInfo/def...&virus_k=100261

It is related to this MS update:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tr...in/MS03-011.asp

If these links don't help you to solve the problem, please feel free to email us again and I'll see if there is more that I can find.

I wish there was some way for us to prevent these kind of attacks, but because it is related to the browser of the person accessing the site, we can't stop it. Just so you know, we have never had pop-ups on Literotica, ever. These creepy companies need to be stopped and I know they have been sued a few times already - maybe somebody will eventually stop them. Until then, please try the links above and see if that solves your specific problem.

Thanks again for writing and take care!

Pulled from one of the articles:

"Most people use Internet Explorer, which is the most prone to these sorts of exploits due to its insecure nature. You would be safer using a better, more secure browser, such as Mozilla. If you insist on using Internet Explorer, you need to tighten up your browser's security settings."

IMHO.......;)

Go with Mozilla Firebird and save yourself tons of troubles, not to mention, a much faster browser

Also note that the Kazaa that's mentioned in that article is not the same as KaZaa Lite++

KaZaa Lite++ does not have any spyware or adware with it at all.

And oh yeh, The last 4 links are dead. :D

Patrick's site is alive and well, though in german. The address you gave was his personal site. THe Spybot site uses "security" in place of "patrick".

Try http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download.

The problem with the last 3 links is that the link its self has elipses in it. I've not liked the board software's practive of abbreviing the link name for it's title; when there is a problem with the link it makes it harder to get hold of the full URL. In this case, a "Copy Shortcut" followed by a paste reveals that the abbreviation was used for the URL as well as the title text.

(Technically, <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tr...in/MS03-011.asp" target="_blank">http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tr...in/MS03-011.asp</a> should not have the elipses in the href field.)

ReadyOne, cyberski,

Really a thanks to your input and is apreciated by me. Keep in mind that letter is from Laurel. The same Laurel that along with many others tries hard to keep Lit. a safe and free place!

My real point here was not aimed to guiding others to or myself to get rid of internet distractions. More of a note to reassure people; Lit. maintains a practice of dignity and does not shuffle crap.

I can feel for everyone who experiences problems and glad to help when ever possible myself. So thanks again for the good links.

As always good advice is always welcome by all.

Good info Ready one....

I agree with ya Phildo, i'm just here in this thread with my humble 2¢ worth of imput to try and point people to where they can make there machines alot more secure and perhaps run alot faster.
IE is such an exploited and insecure piece of turd browser by default and most people just are not aware of that.

Heres some more sites everyone should visit:

Every now and then (Weekly?)
Go Here and choose to run most, if not all of the tests on the site. This is a definite 5 star site.

Then, every few days, Go Here and have that site run a trojan scan on your system.

Or, if you don't want to keep returning to that trojan scan site, go Here and download/install there trojan remover. They have a really good one that will scan your machine at startup. It's trialware, so you can use it for 30 days, then if you want to keep it, it's I believe, $24. A very good investment.

One last site, kind of a basic, "look over" site PC Pitstop

And yeh, beansoup, Adaware is important also, but i also use Spybot search and destroy in addition to AdAware. Often times i'll run one and then the other and the second one will find something the first one missed.
Better safe than sorry ;)

I agree

With Cyberski. Ditch the crap ie browser, and get a good one. firebird is quite nice. I also found opera to be a pretty good browser too, but since I picked up firebird I'm finding it to be much better.
