Pomp and Circumstance. The Ceremony of Tradition. The Ritualistic Observance. A formal procedure or service. A proper, recognized rite of passage.
Other than the rather, “intangible, individually perceived, positive mental stroke,” in regard to the “value of respect and fond reminiscence, anchored by tradition” – what good is it?
What good is any Pomp and Circumstance? It always cost money. From a simple wedding ceremony to the death of a king – people make their livelihood from such business.
And in the end – the people who partake, observe or watch such a ceremony – what? They leave with a, “gladdened heart?”
I say, “big fucking deal,” really. Yes, I partake, I go – but I never leave thinking the expense was worth my gladdened heart. I always think, how much better the money would have been spent (invested) elsewhere.
In fact – come to think of it – any Ritualistic Observance – for any reason – to me – is simply throwing money away. I don’t give a fuck who died, I don’t give a shit who was born – and I damn sure don’t care about who is getting married.
But this is just me. To each there own. If you’ve got the money and you want to waste it – and most importantly “buy into” (there’s two words for you) “buy into” - the emotional pull of traditional bull shit – then so be it – have fun.
I just think it’s yet another – stupid human trick.
Any counter thoughts? Or would you agree, showing thus by your silence?
Uber Spark has once again brought the logical obvious to fore. He has spoken.
