Ok...everyone is going to think this is a stupid question, whether you would answer yes or no on the poll, but I've just had it brought home to me that something I've always thought of as a household concept, perhaps, isn’t after all. Even within the country of origin and its very close neighbors, that being the Americas in general and the US specifically.

Don’t get the wrong impression, please. This poll is for everyone. What I want to know is how many Americans don’t know what the Magic Bullet Threory is and how many people from other countries do. That’s why I’ve given these choices.

I’d really appreciate the help, y’all, so if you’ll play along I’ll show you my tits…oh, wait, that’s no incentive since I’ve already done that. Damn! *cursing imaginatively*

I didn't see the pole (I hope I didn't accidentally turn something off), but I do. I have seen a number of documentaries about it.

I know I've heard of it, but I couldn't tell you what it is off the top of my head.

Unless it has something to do with the idea that life began on earth due to some extra-terrestrial event, such as an asteroid landing with certain organic compounds.

Rather unfortunate choice of phrase there, Huck. ;)

ACK! S-Des just PM'd me with the real answer!

See, I must have known that on a subliminal level.... :p

I remember it like it was yesterday- and, in some ways, it feels like it's gonna be tomorrow. :(

Just to give you a perspective...

Moon landing... wasn't born yet... parents weren't married

Challenger... 5th grade... a little older than Christa McAuliffe's students

Berlin Wall comes down... 9th grade... had to write an essay about what it meant

Clinton gets blow job... in college (I'm 2 years younger than Monica Lewinski).

I hear ya on that last count, Stella.:(
I'm off to bed now, but y'all keep voting, please?

*:kiss:es all 'round.*

which one?

you know that little vibrating egg? I refer to that as a magic bullet so it was a little difficult to think of any other definition for it. I had to get my mind out of the gutter. My answer would be yes, but there are so many definitions for this. Can you at least give the topic? Does it have to do with mass media? or with conspiracy theories or something fun like "the perfect murder" or Van Helsing, JFK or the overpriced plastic blender being sold on late night tv> lol. Give me a hint. If its one of those than yes, if not, I have no idea.

You see, from my perspective, there is only one thing that the "Magic Bullet Theory" could possibly be. Especially when put with such emphasis. If what I'm thinking of isn't your first thought, and you need a clue as to what I'm refereing to, then you should answer no because you don't immediately know what it is. :D

Now, I'm really off to bed...please, vote, comment, discuss as you please...I'll be dying to read up on this thread in the morning when I get home from work. *more :kiss:es for all*

Hey, me too! I don't know if I'm two years younger than Lewinski but since I match up with you on all the other things I probably am.

I was in fifth grade when the Challenger blew up, the teacher across the hall, I had her for 2nd and 3rd grade, she brought the television in for every single shuttle launch the years when I was in her class, and she was still doing this. This year she was teaching 6th grade and the students were watching it live when it happened, it affected me bad enough just hearing about it and watching the coverage afterwards, I shudder thinking about watching that happen live.

Btw, I immediately knew the phrase "magic bullet theory" but I had to think for a couple of seconds before I recalled what it is was, then immediately afterward I thought of the "magic loogie" episode of "Seinfeld".

*shudders* Wow that's kinda sobering
That "off the top of my head" thing cracked me up

*threadjack* Several people have mentioned the Challenger. Is that the pivotal moment all of us will recall seeing who were too young to remember the "Magic Bullet?" Obviously 9/11 is even more impactful for a lot of reasons, but I was already jaded by then.

I'll never forget that I was getting ready to walk out of the house (I was a freshman in college). I remember them announcing it and feeling like it was impossible. It made me see the world in a whole different light. I couldn't get over the kids from the teacher's school watching and the cameras in the room. It utterly devastated me. *unthreadjack*

Soup Nazi is my favorite followed by the one where George does everything opposite of what his instincts tell him and it works wonders for him. The Contest was another good one. [/threadjack]

I was thinking of writing something like that in my post. That Challenger is the "magic bullet" of my generation, like 9/11 will be of the ones who were too young for Challenger.

And sadly there's also Columbia now as well, but the way that happened and happening just 2 years after 9/11, it just didn't have the impact that the Challenger disaster did, though I mourn for those lives lost all the same.
