LIT has introduced the closing of threads with more than 5000 posts. This is in order to reduce the slow down of the server and is necessary.

However there is another solution to this problem. For every thread that reaches 5000 posts the first 1000 are deleted automatically thereby keeping the thread alive.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both but which option is more preferable?

Your vote really does matter.

The whole basis of the site is free speech. Also Laurel makes it very clear that your posts will not be deleted. Why would you remove the OP and subsequent posts? That seems asinine.

Because some threads, particularly in the Playground are just 'Round Robin' for example Follow the the letter, and there are hundreds of such similar. It is pointless in keeping the first few posts.

This ain't the playground. This shit is historical.

I am sure that when you create and manage your own site that all of the things that annoy you here will be corrected.

But you can't pick and choose. What if something of great importance was in those first few letters? Most threads on the site aren't round robin threads.

Gaia, tell your sister Quiche that I don't mind being a one-night stand booty call, but if she wants her earring that fell behind the bed last Wednesday night back, she's gotta call me or text me or somethin'. ;)

Voted and had my say, but I seem to be in the minority.

Your first thread on the GB is complaining about how it's being run. No one knows you here. If Laurel is your buddy, she wouldn't have suggested this. Trust me.

And why is this a complaint? It is discussion. I am simply trying to suggest to her an alternative solution. If the current situation is the best solution then I understand, but if there is an alternative then if should be discussed and not put down and dismissed out of hand.

Please forgive me if I am unknown to you.
