Doesn't really cover it. I don't see the need to pin this down now anyway. There isn't going to be a reliable vaccine here and available to everyone by election day. Yet another stupid claim for Trump to make.

if it got cdc or who approval and was available here? yes. till then, no, not till i see confirmed, positive results. not saying russia can't make a reliable vaccine first... just that i have no trust where it comes to putin. if their vaccine can be made quickly, reliably, and has peer-reviewed trials to prove efficacy and safety? no problem

The FDA issues approvals, not the CDC. That aside, what are you going to do if a vaccine is approved by the NHS or whatever clearly superior socialized medicine agency approves of a vaccine in the UK and the US FDA does not, or vice versa?

But it's unlikely I'd be offered it, being >5 and <50, no pre-existing conditions, already had it and suffered no complications, don't work with vulnerable people, etc. By the time it's offered to me, plenty of people will have tested it out, probably over a couple of years.

I would think you likely wouldn't need one this season, anyway. There may be boosters eventually if it is shown that the immunological response degrades over time or as new iterations of the virus mutates in significant ways.

Not even Trump will get away with pushing out an unsafe, untested vaccine. If and when a vaccine is widely available, it will be safe and reasonably effective. Of course for that to happen, the release date will have to be the middle of next year or later.. If millions of doses suddenly appear right before the election even the most hardcore Trump suckers won't buy it. Although, with the way Trump has been minimizing the virus, I doubt most of his supporters would get vaccinated even if Trump himself got vaccinated live on the Sean Hannity "show". He's kinda poisoned the well on anybody trusting him or the doctors on Covid, which means a lot more death and suffering for the country, as well as more delays in getting back to "normal".

The UK govt's being buying 60-90m doses at a time of different vaccines so they'll be enough to go round, especially when you take out numbers of anti-vaxxers. That's our taxes, so I want my money's worth. I'll be at the bar ordering shots till they throw me out

Russia Says Saudi Arabia Will Test Controversial Virus Vaccine

◇ UAE, Philippines and Brazil also agreed to test new shot

◇ Vaccine has drawn criticism due to rushed regulatory process

Russia has reached an agreement in principle to conduct clinical trials of its controversial coronavirus vaccine in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, according to the head of its sovereign wealth fund.

The Russians are working with a pharmaceutical company in the kingdom and have shared data from Phase I and Phase II trials with Saudi partners, the chief executive officer of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev, told Arab News. The company wasn’t identified.

“We’ll really engage with Saudi scientists and the Saudi Health Ministry,” Dmitriev said. “We believe that Saudi will be a very strong partner for our joint work on the Sputnik V vaccine.”
