I've been mostly stolen away to another forum floating around on the net with other Litsters, but popping back in here now and again really makes me wonder why the hell there isn't a section on this board for politics and current events. Mainly I don't come to the AH anymore because people are doing too much debating and politicking. I seem to remember that when I first started here, there was less of that, if only slightly. I'd rather discuss writing, and books, and the pros and cons of their vs. there vs. they're, or what have you.

I have nothing against anyone who wants to talk about politics or start some current event drama, I just usually don't want to see it. Since a sub-section was made for visual art, has anyone considered making a sub-section for politics and current events?

I wish they would. I didn't know where else to put the Current News story I posted....so......but I agree. A forum for Politics/Current Events/News would be welcome by me.

I love you for not interpreting my post as a direct attack. :rose:

Why would I have. :kiss::rose:

I have only to look at the first page and see that many of the threads are just that. News/politics and Current event type threads!! I really DO agree with you.

*hugs* to you!!

And your baby too!! ;):rose::kiss:

Because there are some who would.

Yes, I see exactly what you see on the first page, thus my "inspiration" for this thread.

Thanks and hugs back. :rose: :)

I don't think adding a political board would change much in the AH. Several of those posting political threads are doing so with "in your face" intent. They will continue to "in your face" right here, I would presume. They want faces to yell into.

Then those who want an audience should consider joining an activist group instead. They could hold up big signs and yell and everything.

I still think a sub-section would be good.

Isn't telling those who want to irritate how they can be less irritating just spitting in the wind?

Who's Your Favorite Lesbian Fireman?

The shallow end of the pool does seem to favor slam book format.

No, because in the end, I don't really care what's done or not done. Like I said, I'm rarely here anymore.

It's merely a suggestion. Something to think about.

So . . . sorry . . . but this thread is just spitting in the wind, isn't it?

You didn't get the point about making helpful suggestions to the unhelpful?

I got the point. I also didn't care.

Once again...perhaps all those "unhelpful" threads could go in their own little section up at the top.

Though really, the way things are going, they might look good on the GB too.

There's really no solution. They wouldn't stay in their cage. :rolleyes:

Esp the "in your face" posters like LaJoke and JJ. The only good solution is to have them on ignore, like Stella does, so the forum is clean of their threads. I did it once - it really makes for a totally different AH!

I understand that. I just think it would be helpful to have a special place for ALL the political/current event/debate threads.

I'll have to admit I'd never put them on ignore. They are that little amusement/shock I look for in my frequent breaks from intensive work. Sometimes they do irritate me (not LaJoke, of course--he's just too much over the top to affect me) and cause me to react. But that can be a good break from editing/writing too. I wouldn't want the forum to become too dull.

Yeah that's why I didn't do it for long. :eek: But ya know, then you're basically saying they make the forum a better place (i.e. less dull) which I'm not sure is entirely true either...

I perceive a difference between "better" and "more entertaining."

Exactly. The Chicago Cubs since 1916 and the New York Mets in the 1960s were entertaining. The Red Sox, despite their failures, were better. ;)

Coming close to the topic: I'm of the same mind as sr71 and Selena here. The most offensive of the political thread-starters would never commit themselves to staying within a cage. And they can be entertaining at times, too, though I tire of that form of entertainment even more quickly than I tire of Adam Sandler.

And if/whenever you really want to ignore them, you can do so without the ignore button. Their name/Avatar are prominently displayed before you have to read any text. I rarely bother to read anything Amicus posts, for instance (sort of get a kick out of all that writing he's done that I don't even read).

I see the outrageous nonsense posted by some

of these folks as a form of entertainment, a diversion, a perverse diversion for some, a distraction for others, but ultimately: entertainment.
Perhaps it's a cry for help. Or a hedge against loneliness, or fear.....Maybe it's a lament about their pitiable existance......
I could go on and on but you get the picture.
It's really too bad that parts of this forum has been hijacked by the lowest common denominator - ignorance, predujice, and hatred - but those folks have to go with what they know.....

Exactly. There's a reason why one must click the mouse before reading any given thread.
