Politics 101

Yeah. Never invest any concern in your society. It risks argument  , and who needs to discuss anything with people anyhow?

To me, "politics" is boring, because it amost immidiately comes down to "he said, she said" bickering, with all sides pretending that politicians and "leaders" on their side are only motivated by a pure-bred concern for the welfare of others, while those on the other side are Satan incarnate, full of hate, and out to destroy our society (see the rants of the Bush haters today and the Clinton haters a few years ago). The truth is that the pols on all sides are self-interested individuals like everyone else, have many and vaired motivations like everone else, and are most often cynical and hypocritical as they wrestle for power.

Political philosophy, however - ah, that is much more interesting. What is "the good life," and how shall we organize our society so as to allow everyone to have an opportunity to pursue it, and to not create unintentially create incentives to choose a different course? In this forum I have engaged in some "epic" exchanges on these issues (usually me vs. rest of AH given the leftist and statist tilt of most politcally-oriented residents here.)

Probably the most fundamental debate was this: https://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=394100&page=1&highlight=rights

You could do worse, Fem, that to use these as a starting point, becaue I think they would allow you to identify the basic political-philosophical premises on which your political opinions will be based.

Economic Left/Right: -2.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.82

I actually think I fall just slightly to the right, with only those religion questions pushing me over the left on this test. It felt a little unbalanced to me, and quite leading actually. The test feels like it is trying to give you one of two ratings, Ghandi or Hitler. Anyone with strong religious convictions is going to be labeled Hitler, and everybody else is going to be Ghandi.

As far as I'm concerned, the only way to get to the heart of the matter is to distill the crap from both sides down and find the nuggets of truth both present, and then see where you stand on that. Listen to the loud spin-doctors from each side and keep your ears open for the catch phrases ( Hannity, Rush, Move-On, Democratic Underground ). Elite Liberal Media, Stuck on Stupid, Neocon, "witty" names for the President like "Resident Bush", "Shrub"... all are a solid indicator that whoever you're looking at could be sheared for a fine profit in the wool market. They may have relevant facts, but dig them out of referenced sources and don't bother with their "explanation", which will be so utterly biased as to be useless.

I'm about as moderate as you get, one of those people who get screamed at on Liberal boards like I'm Hitler returned ( the reason I rarely post in anything remotely political here, there are enough trolls without targeted ones ) or an unwashed hippie pinko if the place the discussion is happening leans right. It makes sense, because there's little sense in "Me too!" when you agree with someone, but when you disagree with them, there's actually a reason to say something.

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -3.63
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.54

But that would vary depending on the society I lived in...
