politicians ?

I'm currently writing a story about a DC insider. The characters are all fictional, but they work in the white house, the senate, etc. Can a story include known politicians, even though none of them are written about sexually? All the sex and eroticism is between purely fictional characters.

i can't imagine the problem, to be honest. as public figures, i believe that's OK. i'm sure they won't like it but legally, i think you're OK.

You'd probably be OK because as politicians they are public figures. Look at some of the stuff that's said about Obama and Bush. Most major politicians should be fair game. As long as you don't claim it to be true you'd be safe.

Now on the other hand local politicians might be more of an issue. It doesn't sound like you plan on going there but I'm just pointing it out for clarification.

Foreign politicians it doesn't matter. It IS a crime to satirize politicians in some countries but the US gov isn't likely to care and its probably unlikely you'd visit such places.

You can include them in the story, just be sure they are doing nothing more than being in a hurry or you can face libel charges. Politicians are screwy that way, they can't tell the truth but anytime anyone says something about them, they flip their lid and pursue criminal charges.

thanks for the clarifications and suggestions... i assumed it was ok, but also recognize that politicians are a different breed of humanity. now all i have to do is find the time to finish the story...

well, it isn't really about the politicians, just somebody who rubs elbows with them...

though, there is lots of potential there for some good stories and intrigues.
