It seems that both of the major parties are intent on committing suicide. The Republicans more so than the democrats for the time being. Tone deaf and disconnected from the populace they blunder on to their own demise.
The Republicans are playing with but a single empty chamber right now. They, along with the press, didn't take Trump seriously and expended a tremendous amount of venom on Cruz early in the campaign cycle. Now that Cruz is the only potential candidate that can stop Trump they find themselves having crippled their own salvation from the 'Trumpster.' Now they are talking about a brokered convention, an act that is sure to inflame an electorate already seething with anger over the 'entitled to rule' (as opposed to govern) attitude of the DC elites.
The Democrats are hardly in better shape. They just happen to have three empty cylinders in their particular revolver. The same seething anger with the parties political elite has also infected the Democrats. The rise of Bernie is clear evidence of that phenomena. Bernies followers are energetic and motivated whereas those that are pulling the lever for "The Criminal" are lackluster and merely following the program. The number don't lie and enthusiasm for the democrat offerings for candidates is on the wane.
The road is wide open for the formation of a viable 3rd party, perhaps even a fourth. No wonder the DC power brokers are shitting their pants.
There is also another alternative, although remote, still within the realm of possibility. And that is out and out revolution. The disconnect between the people and those that would be King is so great at this point in time that the possibility cannot be ruled out. People on all sides of the political spectrum are disgusted and feeling disenfranchised by those that they elected to represent them.
DC forgot that they are servants, not dictators.
