I went looking for a John Joseph Pershing bio and tossed most of the new ones. They ignore his army name, BLACK JACK. Patton was OLD BLOOD AND GUTS. Army commanders acquire such 'names.' And modern writers wanna steer clear of BLACK JACK.

Pershing started life as a cavalry officer out West. All his men were blacks, and he became known as Black Jack Pershing. Theres more.

Pershing disliked black soldiers, and refused to use them when he became a star. Modern historians don't want near Black Jack.

I heard he was 'black jack' because during the war with Spain he was an officer in one of the black regiments, I think there were two cavalry regiments that were black back then. (Also a couple of Black Infantry regiments.)

That's the issue with far left liberalism they literally want to write over or rewrite history.

On the other hand, the army 'officially' de-segregated long before the rest of the country.

The 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments were all black.

The 27th Ifantry was all black, and a disasrer at Korea. In the 90s the army made an effort to redeem them but the official records aren't flattering. So the army says all the officers who assessed the 27ths performance were racists.

At the end of ww1 the Axis (Germans etc) surrendered unconditionally - except for one regiment which had successfully resisted superior allied forces for 4 years. That regiment was entirely black.

The Germans had an African colony where little happened. I assume its what you mean.

Tanganyika. The officers and senior NCOs were German. My partner has a book on them I skimmed thru - "The Germans Who Never Lost" - it's a fascinating story.

Colonial troops vs colonial troops.

As a rule blacks are too excitable and undisciplined as soldiers.
