Police officers sue Donald Trump for injuries resulting from Capitol riot

Lawsuit seeks damages for ‘physical and emotional injuries caused by Trump’s wrongful conduct inciting a riot’ on 6 January

Two US Capitol Police officers have filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump, accusing him of inciting the deadly 6 January insurrection and saying he was responsible for physical and emotional injuries they suffered as a result.

James Blassingame, a 17-year veteran of the force, and Sidney Hemby, an 11-year veteran, filed the lawsuit on Tuesday in US district court for the District of Columbia seeking damages of at least $75,000 each.

“This is a complaint for damages by US Capitol Police officers for physical and emotional injuries caused by the defendant Donald Trump’s wrongful conduct inciting a riot on January 6, 2021, by his followers trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election,” the lawsuit said.

Trump has denied responsibility for the rioting, which left five people dead, including a police officer. His office did not immediately return a call for comment on the lawsuit.

Before the January insurrection occurred, Trump encouraged his supporters to “fight like hell” and march to the US Capitol building during a rally in Washington held on the same day. The former president was impeached, for a historic second time in his presidency, over his incitement of the insurrection – but was acquitted by the Senate in a 57 to 43 vote.

The lawsuit cites the former Republican president’s conduct before and beyond the November presidential election, which Joe Biden won, including comments in speeches, on Twitter and during presidential debates.

It said Trump stoked violence throughout the 2020 presidential campaign and escalated his false assertion that the election was rigged after the election was called for Biden.

Acting Defense Secretary Miller reveals that Trump delayed National Guard for hours on January the 6th

Under questioning by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Acting Defense Sec Miller revealed that there was a three-hour delay between when the Capitol Riot started to when the National Guard were finally being deployed.

Requests for the National Guard had come from the Mayor of DC, the local National Guard commander, from the Sargent at Arms for the Capitol and from Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer’s office but it wasn’t until Miller had a conversation with Mike Pence at 4:08 pm that the Guard was finally authorized at 4:32 pm.

Miller’s exact reason for this delay was rather vague and nebulous but we do know who didn’t give him a call. He didn’t get a call to release the Guard from Donald Trump. After rules established following the deployment of the Guard against Black Lives Matter in DC during the summer, the authorization had been kicked up the chain of command to the White House. If Trump (or Pence) didn’t make the call, the Guard wasn’t coming.

Trump was watching the Insurrection unfold on live TV. He had a conversation with Kevin McCarthy where after first claiming the attackers were “from Antifa” he told him “I guess these people are more upset about the election than you are.” He didn’t release his weak statement to “go home, we love you” until nearly 4pm. Twitter locked his account for his encouragement of the riot at 4:02 pm.

Trump sat on his hands this entire time. It was because Pence finally stepped in that the Guard were deployed at all. Frankly, if Trump had called for the Guard, it probably would have been to have them help the protestors, not the police. Based on the discussion that Miller had with Trump on Jan 3rd, very likely those were the “optics” that Miller was concerned with.

LoL. Since Merrick Garland has taken no action to go after Trump with that silly “inciting an insurrection” claim, nor signaled any intent to do so, these cops will try their luck. Good luck with that officer! 😂

You really don't understand how that whole thing works do you? I'll give you this: ignorance is a defense...that is until such time as the facts are presented, then it metastasizes from ignorance to willfully stupidity.

This slam dunks the case.

Stupid people think they have to show Trump incited the insurrection. All one has to show is Trump did nothing to stop it and their injuries happened because of inaction. Miller just did that.

Trump didn’t incite an insurrection?

What could have been the purpose of holding a rally on January 6th just blocks from the Capitol on the morning of the congressional vote to certify the election?

Did he encourage the crowd to go to the Capitol and said, he would be there with them? (if he had balls)

Donald Trump is an asset of the Russian government and attempted a political coup in the United States, which he was as successful with as he's been with his other attempts in life. He belongs in the mental ward of a federal prison and there's not a single lie the board Trumpettes can rant on about that will change that.

Can you imagine how difficult it must be to be around him. There are countless verifiable reports of him abusing the fuck out of people. I expect Baron to kick his ass soon.

Most have the option not to be there and should have taken it already. It would be interesting to know if Melania and Barron are actually there or in the Maryland suburbs with her parents.

I'm sure that you remember when he put on that bizarre shit show going around the table and have each one of those cabinet positions. They obviously felt strangely compelled to make repulsive and insincere compliments. There is no amount of money or power that could get me to subject myself to that humiliation. His actions are further aggravating because, as we know, he probably never accomplished anything in life without cheating.

I wonder what lawyer Trump will refuse to pay will represent him :D
