I know this one poem I recited back in the seventh grade. It's hilarious. The thing is I forgot who wrote it or even when (I think it was the late 1800's, but I could be wrong). It was published in a book of American Short Stories and Poetry if my memory serves me correctly, so there's a chance it was popular. If anyone can fill me in on the details, I'd much appreciate it!!!

Augustus, the Chubby Lad (my title for it)

Augustus was a chubby lad
fat ruddy cheeks Augustus had
and everybody saw with joy
the plump and hearty, healthy boy
He ate and drank as he was told
and never let his soup get cold
But one day, one cold winter's day, he said
"Take that soup away!
Oh take that nasty soup away!
I won't have any soup today!"

The next day begins his tales of woe
quite lank and lean Augustus grows
and though he feels so weak and ill
the naughty fellow cries out still
"Take that soup away!
Oh take that nasty soup away!
I won't have any soup today!"

Third day comes, oh what a sin!
To make himself so pale and thin
yet when the soup is put on the table
he screams out as loud as he is able
"Take that soup away!
Oh take that nasty soup away!
I won't have any soup today!"

Fourth day comes,
what's to be done?
He scarcely weighs a sugar plum
He looks like a piece of thread.

And on the fifth day, he was dead.

Holy crap on a stick

Damn your good.

Thanks a ton! Now I can recite it correctly!
