    [/list=1]

Olympians, refer all your questions to daughter, she will manage this event from this point forward. I have sent her the list of contestants who have agreed to participate to date. Duty is calling and I will not have time to orchestrate this event next week.

Poetry olympics huh?

I'm game for it.. I love poetry.. though most of my poems are not sexual in nature..

Count me in!

Lay out the details, dear "Phantom of the Poem"! :D
Can't wait! :)

:rose:

Waiting...

Okay, got the message. Where's the rules and the sign-up sheet?

how long, oh lord?

How long will we have to compose our piece once the teams are selected?

DP

Snowballing?

An erotic poem that makes reference to a winter sport? How totally bizarre! A summer sport would be much more natural. How's this:

I froze my butt off
fucking you on the ski slope
last winter

How about snowballing, UP? Does that count as a winter sport?
:p

Sorry Red snowballing doesn't count, (LOL)

Judo, just send me a pm saying yes

Horse, I added you to the list

Ded Poet, from the 6th to the 26th

U.P.

Clarification

Hey, the part bout the Country names...

You mean each team has to submit a Poem title which has a Country name as part of the title for this round of the Olympics. Right?

Just making sure.

And, BOY! What killer conflictin restrictions. I had to print it out so I can mark each one off later on. During "Did we get that part?" check. LOL

Love a challenge! (Yeah yeah the sonnet thing is still kickin my ass!)

A Man called Horse

Easy boy, easy. Here have a sugar cube.

The rules make it challenging. They make you work harder and make you rack your brain. I like seeing whether or not I can come up with something interesting under the rules.

At least we'll have nearly 3 weeks to brainstorm and
compose a poem! A reasonable amount of time I think.....

You're right

Sorry folks.. to those of you who have read my "I just need a friend" thread.. you know whats happened.. and well.. sometimes I just get so mad at myself for it.. that I find everylittle thing I dont like to focus my anger else where.. sorry..

A horse is a horse, of course.

You should focus some of that anger into a poem. It's a constructive way to deal with your feelings, and you may end up with a great piece of work.

Horse don't apologize

Your right all that stuff restricts. Another example of the great U.P.
Do this, dont do that. I think these competitions are better when you let poets express themselves freely.

Hmmm...

UP -

Couldn't PM, so am answering here. Hope that's OK.

YES!

When I go to someone's house for dinner, I thank them for the invitation and I graciously enjoy the meal. I'd never tell the hostess that I wish she had prepared fish instead of chicken. :)

Fortunately, We're at a buffet. We love contest and writing exercises. Since you're not interested in the Olympics, how about creating another thread where you two run a contest?

Thanks.

Peace,

daughter

p.s. I'm running this contest now. If you have any further questions or concerns feel free to pm me.

If you don't like it, don't fucking do it!

move on, poetry master.

I'm so fucking tired of this bullshit. I mean what the fuck? Have you ever been in any competitions ever? There are always rules. If you're such a goddamned fucking anarchist, make your own contest.

 don't just blab your fucking mouth about something you see as a problem, bring a solution...or shut the fuck up and go do your own thing.

Is this difficult? I'm so not being laid back about this shit anymore.

pissed off perky

QUACK!

Not letting it roll off your back like water, anymore?

Yay, daughter!

Glad to see you're running this one, daughter. You & UP have both done a lot for the poetry community here, and I hope you both stick around.

I would like to say one thing to those who like to bellyache so much (and there will always be some, esp. online where people can hide their identities): it takes a lot of work to set up & run something like this. And neither UP or daughter are getting paid to do it. They're volunteering their time. If you weigh them down psychologically by constantly complaining and showing no appreciation for what they're doing, pretty soon they'll just stop doing it.

Contests generally have rules about the content and/or format of poems, but a totally free form contest is also a possibility. If that's what you want, why don't you organize one? Then you'll probably have more appreciation for those who do.

I say: Let the games begin!

You go, Perky. I'm fed up too. (And Horse, I see you've realized you were being unreasonable, so this rant isn't directed at you.)

If anyone wants to write poetry strictly FROM THE HEART (that phrase is starting to leave a bad taste in my mouth) then go ahead! No one's stopping you.

Restrictions for poetry? As long as poetry has existed there have been forms for it. And here's a newsflash for a lot of people:

WRITING POETRY IS NOT EASY!

I feel like people out there think that it's all just a matter of feeling something deeply and writing it down. WELL, THAT DON'T MAKE GOOD POETRY, PEOPLE. It's not poetry even if it SPEAKS to someone else. All that makes it is drivel that spoke to someone else.

Not everyone agrees with me on that, but I don't expect total agreement.

The rules are there to make it challenging. People who want to rise to that difficult challenge will join in. If you don't feel up to it, then don't join in. It's your choice.

Poetry Lover, you said you think these competitions are better without so many restrictions. And what competitions are you talking about? The only poetry competitions I've seen here were organized by U.P. I see no one else stepping up to the plate to promote any sort of free-to-write-what-you-will poetic contest.

This is loosely based on the Olympics. All sports have restrictions and rules. Get a grip.

what have I done.

I'm sorry this caused problems.. it was not my intent for everyone to have an arguement over something that by all rights I should have never posted.. for the simple fact this has caused a problem. and being as it was my fualt it all started... if you all wish it... I will be leave this thread alone from now on. that way I can not make any more trouble.. once again I appoligize. I wasn't trying to make any trouble.. I'm sorry it all ended up like this.

(just added ) I editted my post that had the complaint so no one else could read it and begin another argument. Enjoy your poetry Olympics everyone.. sorry I disturbed it

To the Unmasked Poet

It has come to my attention you are leaving the poetry Olymipics. The thread that YOU created. and I can not help but feel that atleast some of the blame.. if not all is on me. it may not be my place... Though I feel it is... To ask you not to leave the thread.. the thread that YOU created.

Once again it is not my place to ask this. but for everyone who posted something that was in anyway shape or form derogatory. please remove it. This is suppose to be something fun.. not a place for people to argue. If you wish to yell at me PM me.. I'll reply so you can know I read it.

To be truthfully honest the Unmasked Poet put alot of work into this... its his/her creation... his/her "baby".. and it wouldn't be right if he/she didn't get to see it through to the end.

I don't think you saw where I said I wasn't talking to you, Horse. Stop being a martyr. No one is blaming you. U.P. said his schedule was too busy to do this leg of the competition. He's not leaving because of anyone's hysterics.

As for my rant, I probably just need to get more sleep.

I'd sure love to see Poetry Lover do or say something positive. I'll endeavor to do the same.
