Tonight will be the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. (Tomorrow night should be pretty good too.) Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to view the shower, let it inspire you, and write about it. (And, of course, post it here.)

(Unfortunately, it is overcast here.) :(

Thank you!

for reminding me, fishy. I read about this in the newspaper a few weeks ago, and I had forgotten.

It's already almost 11pm here in UK. Would I be able to see the shower from here?

Yes and the possibility is about 80/hourfrom about 11pm onwards. :)

From a previous Perseid shower

There's a grassy slope
north west facing
where in daylight
kites rise skyward
and parental smiles indulge
but tonight
tonight it is ours
blanket bound and cloudless
we clutch one another
gasping at heaven's fireworks
and wondering whose roof went that time.

Perseids

Grey is the sky
no stars nor moon
to see tonight

Facing North
a flash of light
from the right

God has lit
sparklers that
show he cares.

(to be finished next shower)

Perseid Meteor Shower

My daughter saw two. I saw none.
This city is too full of light,
And clouds are coming. We are done.
I do not doubt her better sight.

The stars were hidden
by the steam of earth
and all I could think of
was that the space shuttle
would also show if not
for those clouds
coming past us through
the throng of Perseid
deadly shower hailing past
and around those vulnerable
aliens wrapped in flimsy metal
no harm was done and still
they will trespass
the territory of the stars
