Thanks for the kudos, gents. I haven't specifically read Patrick O'Brian. Aside from listing to a few abridged audio books on a long drive, I just haven't had the chance. I am, however, a huge fan of ol' Chris Marlowe (if your name is a direct reference), Ben Jonson, Thomas Middleton, and the 2nd Earl of Rochester...basically, all those early modern gents who really knew how to behave badly
