Plot Arcs

Okay....

Three Acts, two Plot Points.

Act I (Introduction) --(plot point 1)--> Act II (Complication) --(plot point 2)--> Act III (Resolution)

That's the paradigm for a plot arc. All plots work this way, unless you are going for something deconstructive.

Time to leave the boards and completely re-write my story.

I really should have read up on *how* to write a story before I did one!

Warlord asks, what is plot arc and goes on to speculate about ways to define and use that.
Good questions for a lot of writers.

For me that never almost never works. My stories begin at the beginning and proceed. Where and how they will end, I know not. I write these things to find out what's going to happen.

Except for one I just started which ends with the death of one principal and readers know that because the story is titiled a memory. So my challenge will be to keep readers interested. I have for the first time a beginning and an ending, but development of the relationship, trust, affection, learning how to fit and accomodate, everything in the middle chapters that will keep readers interest--and mine--that's all unknown.

I need some idea of where I'm going with my plot, but its usually just a basic idea. How i get there will shape as I write. It works differently for different writers to be sure.
