Please remove my story

"It doesn't belong up."

???
Like, it's not finished? Ready for publication? Worthy of Lit.? ;)

i guess i overreacted

didn't feel my story was good enough to be posted. After reading some of the other authors stories, i didn't feel mine was anywhere near as good as theirs. Maybe I am just being foolish.

Hon...

...Post the link to your story. Now you've got me curious and I'd like to read it. :)

You're just being foolish. No, you aren't as good as some of the others. NOBODY is as good as some of the others. It's all subjective darlin. You don't suck at all either. I had a couple of minor problems with it, but they are negligible and a matter of taste.

For one, the reference to perfectly sized 34b breasts. The US's measurement of boob size doesn't work in Austrailia. We are an internationally read website.

The other is the paragraphing. I think parts of it were inappropriately paragraphed, but that is also a matter of taste. I'm sure most people will like your story just fine.

So quit being foolish. You are a fine author, don't let yourself doubt yourself simply because you can't compare to Stephen King or Tom Clancy. You are good enough.

No, your story isn't the best on the site. It's also far from the worst.

You tell a pretty good story, you just don't tell it as well as others. Your story could have benefitted from a volunteer editor's comments

Don't worry about this story, concentrate on making your next effort a bit better and the one after that just a bit better yet. Take advantage of the volunteer editor program, and keep writing.

Maybe someday some newby will post "but my story isn't as good as sxyby143's!"

Everyone has to start somewhere!

You are off to a good start! As WH said, look into hooking up with one of the volunteer editors. They are super here!

Read as many of the stories here that you can. See what makes them stand out. Perhaps look into taking a basic writing course to perfect some of the basics. Go to the "how to" section under the story categories. There are some great tips there written bu good authors here.

Participate in the reviews here. Every bit helps :)

Good luck!

All of us should use the volunteer editors more often!

Hey sxyby143, i've got a rough one or two up too; i know just how you feel. There's some really good writers here at Lit (as in professional or gonna be) and then there are us who just write for our own pleasure and thrill. Your story, as has been said, is hardly the worst thing i've read here.

BTW, do you realize that KillerMuffin and Weird Harold are two of the *most* skilled volunteer editors in the place? You should listen to them, babes; they know what they're talking about.

If I may add, as a new author here (my first story was posted in March), there is a certain amount of trepidation. Many of the stories here are superb and some authors with alot of talent. It is easy to compare one's story with another and feel it isn't up to par.

I read the do's and don'ts. I chose a gracious volunteer editor for my first few stories. He was MOST helpful and very encouraging.

A funny thing I have learned about stories. My first submission is still the highest rated. It did not start as a story, but was a dream that I wrote down for the other person involved in it. I polished and submitted it. None of the tales that I have written as strictly stories have been received quite as well. The one I wrote as a story for someone a few years ago is my lowest rated, yet it is one of my fondest....probably because of the situation that caused me to write it.

But I am a selfish writer - I write for my enjoyment. If I can share that with a reader so much the better, but my goal is not to write the BEST story on Literotica - just to write something I am proud of and to allow others to share that.
The advice given here has been good - it certainly has helped me. Good luck and keep writing.

Gonna just throw in my two cents. You shoulda read MY
first story....lol. Wow. At the time I was writing on the
THRIVE boards before they changed things all around.
The point is, like everyone else here has said already,
you have to improve with each effort. It's like anything
else..practice makes perfect.
When I posted my first story here on Literotica, I had
already written over a half dozen stories on THRIVE, so I
wasn't TOO concerned about my work. I thought it was decent
enough, though no gem by any stretch. The jitters were gone
by that point. And while I still don't consider myself a
master in any sense, I just have fun. The reward is when
you keep writing and finally someone posts a positive comment about your story, or someone emails you to say
something like, "I hope there's a sequel." That makes all
the sweating and worrying and effort worth it.
So hang in there. You'll be just fine.
Mike

AND! There's no accounting for taste. The definition of "good" varies. Is it "the most artistically constructiond"? Or, perhaps, "ingenious character development"? Some define it as the most stroke-worthy!

Some of my most diligent efforts at composition got squat, after editing, revisions and attention to all elements of plot, character and setting development. One of my highest rated efforts was written on the fly in a state of "pon-fahr". It's a crap shoot.

So, write! And, when you're done, write another. Yes, submit them for editing, but above all, keep writing.

Regards,
Alden Bradley

my 2 cents

I have not read your story yet, but can give you this advice;

Don't write a story thinking it is going to be a top story on a site. Don't even worry about that. Just write to simply share a story and if it happens to be fantastic, then great! We have all written some stinkers. Don't sweat it. Practice practice practice! That is all it takes.

And please, don't remove your story. I would love to read it sometime. Right now I have a list of stories I want to read and I have vowed not to take on any more until I finish the list. ;-)

Much love,
S
