1. I think it is very rude of people to jump into the middle of a thread and start giving us their point of view. Why should we read your post if your not going to read ours?

2. More often than not some one has already made the comment you are now making. And they probably did a better job of it than you, because they read the whole thread.

3. If your going to do it, don't tell us about it. That just lets us know how much you care about us. Which is very little. Not once have I posted to a thread with out giving it a lot of thought first. Well that isn't true. A few times I have been pissed off at someone, or something, and just jumped right in posting.

4. What is the point of even coming here if your not going to read what others have to say? Are you a narcissist? Are you only interested in what you have to say, and comments that others make about your posts? Start your own web site then, and leave us alone.

I am only saying this because three times this afternoon I have been reading through some very interesting, and intelligent threads. Then I come across someone who says, oh, I haven't read all of the posts but this is what I think...

That really botherd me, enough for me to start this tread.

So there. :p

I'd say that 99% of the time, I do read all the responses in a thread before jumping in. I enjoy reading other people's opinions and experiences.

Every once in a while I want to say something and I don't have the time to read the whole thread.

Get over it.

What thread?? Oh you mean that stuff above, didn't bother to read it!:D :D

I agree, it makes everyone else's thoughts appear worthless. And it's downright bad manners.

well fuck you and the horse you rode in on

heh

I'm guilty of having posted without reading all the threads.

I don't do it often, but sometimes I have a reaction to the initial post and don't want it clouded by the other responses, I simply want to respond to the original thread. Am I wrong or is that what the original post meant? For people to give their opinions to the question or comment initially posed?

And, glad to see we have another Lit policer out there. People should always be told how and when to post.

Sometimes there's miles and miles of stuff--I doubt you've read everyone of the posts on the "fuck" or "cunt" threads. Sometimes, a thread changes direction, takes on a new life--more than once. I always read the thread-starter's post, and frequently the subject has changed. Sometimes, I want to agree with one side or another, and so maybe what I say is repetitive--sue me. Or to put it more succinctly:
Get over it.

It all depends on the thread...if its a discussion, I will read it all the way thru...but if it's 'whats your fav perfume" well, im not reading it all. I rarely jump into fights that are not mine. Not my style really, but thats not to say that I haven't ever made a comment where I should have just kept my mouth shut. It happens to everyone. Doesn't it? ;)

Why, yes. Yes I am. So sweet of you to notice.

Hey Vix, are you going to be changing your av *every* day or is this just for this week?

Now... hmmm... what's this thread about?
;)

cym

I think I've finally found one that suits me. :)

What are you having for dinner tonight? heh

Can we have a thread that has all the fucking rules for this board? You know I wouldn't want to do the wrong thing

Well just to make you happy I did read the whole thread first. I agree with TN_Vixen. Sometimes I want to comment on the question and not be "clouded" or influenced by what others have said. I usually finish reading the post after I've replied if it's a topic I'm interested in.

I don't think that voicing your opinion at the time you choose to voice it is a bad thing, nor do I think it shows any kind of disrespect for those who's posts you didn't read (yet).

As to your 4th point - if we didn't read what other's had to say, what would we be responding to?

Lili

I was thinking of quoting all the answers above just to prove I had read them but decided it would be too cumbersome;) .

Actually I know where you're coming from but hey some threads are so long and end up so off topic that you can sometimes read the last half dozen posts and know exactly where it's at. I'm buggered if I'm going to read 1,200 posts in a single thread to please you.

A bit of common sense is what is required.

As Shakespeare once said "The lady doth protest too much methinks"

Well that isn't true. A few times I have been pissed off at someone, or something, and just jumped right in posting.

And that's how this thread got started... that's fine... we all need to let off some steam!

I'm guilty.

I've jumped right to the end and made a post before reading the rest of the responses, and boy did I feel like a horse's ass when I got around to reading the full thread and found that 4 other people had already made my point.

I definitely won't tell anyone how to post, but I warn you: read the thread beforehand or you're going to feel like a moron later. Trust me - I've been there. More than once.

hey laurel who was that troll who posted all that information about you and manu yesterday?

It was her kitty! lol

No....that little one isn't a moron. Hmmmmm

Oh. I did read this thread. Yes, on one or two occasions I have begun a post with "I haven't read the thread yet..."

I thought that making such a statement was a courtesy giving everyone else a heads up as to how unprepared I was. Generally, I do this when I feel strongly about something and am pressed for time.

*folding hands and lowering head* I am sorry.

(But will continue to post in the most responsible and courteous fashion possible.

ok

Probably one of the best ways to gauge is look at the number of posts a person has......damn If I read the whole post (Which i try to do most times) you read more than you post. Thus it means you DON'T have millions of posts. Because if you read it all you can't post that much......Oh shit What do I know anyways?

Well, Schoolteacher, you raise an important point : we could all do a better job of reading before we respond.

If I'm to respond to your original post, I probably would have done better answering it immediately, because the other points seem to have become obscured by the discussion. I'm not sure who said what now.

If I were to respond to the discussion, I'd probably tell cymbidia that I enjoy her new avatar. They're usually beautiful, and this one's teasingly playful rather than painful for me to look at.

Either way, in the time it takes me to respond and proofread my post, the thread has probably moved on, and one may not be able to tell I read the whole thread before I began to answer. It
may still seem like I jumped in ignoring everyone else.

Or I could not post, & then you wouldn't know if I read the thread & thought "I couldn't have said it better myself" or if I clicked out after the first page.

I can relate to your sense of frustration, though . I think one birthday thread serves a purpose, two slow the server.

That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

LOL! A troll about a troll...if you must know, it was a chick who Manu once dated a LONG time ago. I guess she's still a little bitter, lol. She took the break-up pretty hard. She's a psycho. I forgot about her, but apparently she hasn't forgotten about him. Can't say I blame her. :)

Laurel has a troll !!!

Yup, that was a pretty sour grapes attempt at trying to make you look bad ... methinks, she should have judged her audience, first.

1. I think it is very rude of people to jump into the middle of a thread and start giving us their point of view. Why should we read your post if your not going to read ours?

Personally I find it exceedingly rude for someone to be anal enough to try and control, on a board known for it's dedication to free speech, the reason, way and content of what I post.

2. More often than not some one has already made the comment you are now making. And they probably did a better job of it than you, because they read the whole thread.

I was going to post a very graphically rude comment on this one but I think I'll try and be civil. Unless you have proof that it's more often then not, perhaps you should say "may have already made the same comment". Otherwise you are guilty of using what could be a completely false comment. Don't want to be using erroneous statements now do we?

3. If your going to do it, don't tell us about it. That just lets us know how much you care about us. Which is very little. Not once have I posted to a thread with out giving it a lot of thought first. Well that isn't true. A few times I have been pissed off at someone, or something, and just jumped right in posting.

Make up your mind, you either do or don't give your post a lot of thought. Me? I can't claim that. There are times here on the board that I open my mouth and insert my foot, sometimes both feet. But I try and give my comments some kind of thought before I commit them to the written word. And why not tell you that I didn't read the rest of the posts in the thread? That sounds like honesty at work to me.

4. What is the point of even coming here if your not going to read what others have to say? Are you a narcissist? Are you only interested in what you have to say, and comments that others make about your posts? Start your own web site
then, and leave us alone.

The point is that sometimes I respond only to the person asking the question, not to everyone else. Why ask a question if your not ready for all types of answers? You only want to hear those that fit your narrow definition of being done right? From the most unexpected places come pearls of wisdom. Narcissistic? What if I am? Is that any worst then being anal? Or controlling? Or so insecure I don't post because it isn't new and original? And as far as starting my own web site,I think that's rude so; BYTE ME!

Comshaw (normally a laid back, easy going poster. But sometimes an asshole)

Uh, well, around here, we're all assholes on occasion, i think.

Except patient1. Have you noticed that he's never an asshole? He's definitely a Good Guy. Around here, Good Guys finish first.

I try to read the whole threads, but I'm also guilty of sometimes not having time to read 4 or 5 pages ahead of me. It depends on the topic. Sometimes I'll ignore what everyone else has said and answer the original question, especially if it is a poll asking for our opinion. And sometimes I want to answer without seeing what everyone else said first, but I will go back to read AFTER I've posted. Like Laurel, I've gotten caught once or twice with a silly post at that point. Oh, well. :)
