Please join me in a moment of silence

I didn't miss it. Anyone saw the Tournament of the Hearts on Sunday?

No, it is the players wanted to be able to make more money but the owners did not want them able to do that so they locked them out.

As the lovely snowy pointed out in her anti NHL rant, now's the time to support your local college or am teams. That's what I've been doing. Way to go NHL guys, screw the loyal fan base you already had so that you can get even less money in the future. Yes, it was a small fan base that didn't generate as much revenue as you wanted, but hey, you make a bajillion dollars a year. I make 30k in a good one. You can better afford generosity than I can. So, I don't really give a damn when they come back. I've been able to make some of the home games for my college team and I've noticed a LOT more fans at the games. It also appears to be a much more fun crowd.

Here in Michigan, I am able to see many college games and some junior teams play around here as well. You don't really MISS the NHL, but it sure makes one think twice about paying to see them. An entire season with no "Hockey Night in Canada" is pretty sad. If they don't get their poop in a group, this professional sport may just make themselves obsolete.

Mea Culpa

Scratch the snowy rant comment above; it's on a different site. I thought I'd read it here.

But I stand by the rest of my commentary; our local university team is pretty damn good. I've been going to their games since I was enrolled there. I go with snowy and blue kat quite often, since we're all in the same area. It's quite funny; the local government bigwigs didn't really freak out much about losing the year's revenue. I mean, they were worried about the lost $$$ but then they figured the fans would be back next year and they'd make it up as we'd all be suffering from puck withdrawal. The local college paper ran an article on the team and the majority of the fans were saying they won't go back when this is over and now they're getting twitchy. I find it funny. I'm thinking "great, take the $$$ you guys gave to the NHL to bring them here and go give the local firefighters and such a raise."

Our local team is good too. So, let the whiners whine and the players play...

It used to be a religion in this city during the 70's and 80's and then the price of going to a game shot thru the roof.

I don't follow hockey lol, don't care for it, I didn't even know something was wrong.

them's fighting words pal :catroar:
Speaking of fighting, that was 50% of hockey. I have never really been into the game, Am or Pro, so I can't speak pro or con about it..

But, when you talk about money and pro teams vers players, that can be any sport. Football is bad, even with the salary caps. Baseball needs caps, but I'm not talking about the ones on their heads.

My home team? They were really, really, really bad, last year. This year, the owner said he's cutting the team salary by 9 million. But, if some new player comes around, he will still make an offer. If you ask me, he needs about nine new players. It looks like we'll be at the bottom again, this year.

But, getting badk to hockey. Because I don't follow the game, I only hear about it from my sports crazy friends. They just talk about it like it's a joke, but when you think about it, it does hurt the game and everybody involved is part of that game, players owners and fans. Remember the lock out in baseball? Did that game ever really recover? If you ask me, I don't think so.

Now, this is a football town. Our baseball stadium hasn't had a sold out game in years. I bet it goes back to 1985 and the glory team. But, the football stadium (87 thousand) has been sold out for EVERY game, for a long, long time. I can't remember when a game wasn't sold out. Hockey? No hockey here.

Actually, I'd rather find some sexy assed woman and puck her ass.

Exactly.

I also noticed how you're already speaking of it in the pastense. Intentional?

Intentinal? No, but not being much of a fan, I can''t say what is happening or why. I just know if it involves money and it's the weallthy players against the wealthy owners, the fans and the game are the losers.

As I said in my previous post, the only way I knew this was going on was because of my sports hungry friends. But, I do think it will hurt the game. The fan base will find something else to do, and it will be increasingly difficuilt to get them back, when this is all settled.

I know there are some diehard hockey fans out there. I see nothing wroing with that. It does make me wonder, however, if these fans will be so reliable, now that their whole season is gone because of some childish money fighting. It's just sad, but it's a good thing the fans have college games to watch. And, that's good for the college teams to see the larger crowds.

i still think I'd rather puck some cute woman's ass.

I feel your pain, or felt something like it - earlier this week - and I enjoyed it... (I had a date. LOL)

All funning aside... sorry about your hockey stuff. I'd feel the same way if the NFL cancelled a season.

Probably WAS intentional. You want fights? Have to go see an OHL game now.
