I've tried everything to find this story I once read, but to no avail. The details I remember are quite generic unfortunately.

A guy is living with a girl (housemate/flatmate?). She has a boyfriend but he's described as boring and she's not happy with him. The housemates start masturbating in front of each other. No touching at first but over time they get closer and the scenes build and build. Eventually she breaks up with her boyfriend and they finally have full sex.

That's all I remember and it's killing me that I can't find it. Any help appreciated!

No it's been years so I don't remember... but it's stuck with me and become an obsession to find it. The problem is I'm not sure if I even trust my recall now.

Perhaps it was set in England? They would regularly masturbate in front of each other on the bed but she didn't allow touching as she had a boyfriend. I seem to remember her break up was quite drawn out, she couldn't do it easily but knew she should. Once she was single they finally had sex.

I appreciate I'm looking for a needle in a haystack here!

My Canadian editor and I (Australian) were discussing the American word for housemate/flatmate, while we were Americanising my story (set in Boston). (Lit's spellchecker wants me to put a zed in 'Americanising' (and call it a zee.))

Anyway, we settled for "roommate" - which isn't just reserved for college dormitory type settings, but can mean sharing a house/flat in the US.

Search hits for these words:

Flatmate - 1,136
Housemate - 1,534
Roommate - 27,655

So, you may need to use the keyword 'roommate'... And your search just got an order-of-magnitude harder.

You can narrow that down by eliminating unlikely categories: Incest, BDSM, Loving Wives, etc. Restricting to Exhibitionism, Erotic Couplings, Romance, and Toys/Masturbation are probably going to give your likeliest hits.
