As writers I don't understand something in here. Please someone explain.

I have seen many threads in this site, that contain incredible subject matter, some that are just plain fun, and some, while ya know those that are, lets just say different. I cannot help but wonder why the replies to many threads are so, lets say, non-plentiful. The ratio between readers and replies are like tremendous. You know like the ones you see that have had 500 readers and 10 replies. Do people not like to write brief, 20 second comments in a thread? I can understand that not all threads are a subject that interest everyone, but some general threads that I have seen on here, definitely deserve a response of some kind. I have also read threads from people complaining that the quality of threads is not that good. But when you see a thread that is a super good "conversation piece", it drifts by the wayside due to lack of response! I'm just confused and wondering why this happens! A couple examples: Ambrosious wrote a thread asking what your first car was. Now I know almost everyone here has had a first car. But out of all the readers he has had, only 23% wrote a reply...maybe the other 77% of the readers have forgotten what their first car was. FantasyGoddess wrote a thread about sex positions "Beyond the G-Spot". Out of all her readers of that thread..a sex thread by the way..get this, only 6% left a reply. Even my monster thread...twenty five thousand people actually have read it and only 25% left a reply...and all you have to do is write one word...that means 19,000 people that read the thread, did not reply. Ok, Is there an award for being the most curious person on Literotica?

I noticed the same thing....

and early on in my history here.

Lurker's, voyer's.

That's why I came up with my morning thread - the primary reason anyway. Luring lurker's.

Well, it didn't work really. I got a few to come out of their closets but relative to the number of reads - not many.

Conclusion? They don't want to contribute. That's their business.

Oh well I tried.

I don't reply to a serious thread unless I feel like I can add something to it. But if it interest me I will still lurk there, which adds to the viewers total each time I return to read it.
(Grrrr, my brain and fingers aren't working together. I hope y'all understand what I meant by the post. lol)

I think that some people may be shy about leaving a comment, they just enjoy reading until something finally strikes a nerve.

a small point

Part of the reason the number of views is so much higher than the number of replies is that anyone interested in the thread will open it again every time there's a new response. Therefore, number of views doesn't reflect the number of PEOPLE who have read the thread.

Your "something new and different" thread has probably the best replies/view ratio because people don't open it to read it - they open with the intention of playing the game.

I replied...

...even though I was embarrassed at hell at my first car.

You didn't ask me what my girlfriend and I got up to in the back though...

I've got to agree with Mustang Sally. If I find a thread interesting I'll open it everytime there is a post to it. I don't always contribute mostly cause I don't always have something to contribute. When I do contribute I try to make the comment as relavent and witty as possible. Of course sometimes I just ain't that relavent or witty (ie this post). Well hell, I tried!

Just thought I'd say....I'm luuuuurkinggggg...mwuhahahahaha!! ;)

I agree, if I can't add in anything that hasn't already been said by the masses, I'll just lurk and read, checking back when new posts are made.

Well, one can't always tell what a post is about by the title, and one must look.

For my own part, I don't think anyone needs to know about my first car, or my favorite sexual positions, or even my vocabulary -- though I did contribute to your thread occasionally.

If there's nothing I can contribute, or care to contribute, I don't post.

I have had so little time on the Board lately, that I have missed a lot of great threads. And being lazy, I don't usually look very hard if a thread has moved off the front page. I get in, read and post on what looks interesting, then get out. Sorry that I'm not holding up my end of this thing.

Quality vs Quantity - and the difference is in the eye of the beholder. This is not judging either approach....just an observation. To be brutally honest, though, it is tiresome to have one or two people in EVERY thread.

It's kind of a crap shoot, really. I've had a lot of threads plummett to the back pages that I thought for sure would be hits. I've had some that were just bullshit off the top of my head that got a lot of response. You never really know.

Being ignored sometimes is a way of life here, get used to it. I read a lot of threads that I find very interesting, but because I don't have anything to add, I don't.

There's one thread in particular that I wish would go away, but people keep posting on it asking everyone else to quit posting on it. I wish someone would enlighten me.

Hey Purp, I tried that Wizard of Oz, Dark Side of the Moon thingy and nothing happened. On DVD with a big screen TV and surround sound, no less. I feel so ripped off! LOL Did you forget to tell us you have to be stoned out of your mind to get it?

It's a good job if you can get it

I just discovered Literotica about a month ago. I wanted to submit a couple of short stories I had written. While the stories were (one still is) pending, I decided to look around a little bit. Then I discovered this bulletin board.

Addicted? Not me. I have hired myself to work here … making sure that all the various threads are read and digested, posted to when I feel I might have something clever or of any kind of value, and trying to figure out the various personalities that hang out here. It's an interesting job but the pay sucks.

Get what? Ripped off? Stoned?

Were you expecting munchkins to walk into the room?

Say this aloud three times, Sally: "I WE TODDED, SOFA KING WE TODDED"

ouch!

Now that wasn't very nice.

I believe it goes:
I AM WE TODD DID. I AM SOFA KING WE TODD DID.

And yes, I am. Thank you.

:p

Ok, I wasn't sure.

But you know, it would have been really cool if munchkins had walked into the room... <g>

A THREAD THAT MADE ME GO HMMMM.....

Very well said, LilBrandi. I was thinking the same thing. Too many threads with meaningless subjects but yet, thousands of views and hundred of responses. It is obvious that most of us have just a little too much time on our hands.
