The Day the World Went Away-NIN
i'd listen to the words he'd say...
but in his voice i heard decay...
the plastic face forced to portray...
all the insides left cold and grey...
there is a place that still remains...
it eats the fear, it eats the pain...
the sweetest price he'll have to pay...
the day the whole world went away...
when i first heard this song nearly two years ago, i was almost positive it was a picture of my future.. it was my epitaph..
the music in this song is the music that plays in the back of my head when i'm sad.. that music you can't quite make out but you know is there.. and it always has been, even since before Reznor even dreamed it up in that whacked-out mind of his.. it struck this cord inside me when the music started again after the words.. it sent a jolt through my entire body, something akin to a huge shiver... after that is was (and still is) like every single nerve ending in my body is vibrating all at once...
if i'm actually listening to this song, not just playing it as background noise, it never fails to move me to tears...
