Planet of the Apes, ROCKS !!!

whew i was worried have read mixed reviews......i am off to see it on friday.......thanks siren.........will let you know what i think woooooooohoooooooooo can't wait................:D

Wut Does It Mean?

It's az Good as the First one?...I'll check it Out...:)

It is better than the first movie

:p

Heston wuz a Trained Actor...

Soylent Green...

You've got me Stoked to see this movie...

it was good and i did enjoy it (i really did) :) ... however ... i had a strange feeling all way through it of why did they make it

im sure they could remake some of the star wars films and make them really good films but would you want them too ?

Yea well, it needed to be redone

:p

yes i thought it was pretty cool ... i did enjoy it but i kept thinking of the orignal and having to slap myself :) ... i prefer in orignal that the humans couldnt talk

also the orignal did have an explanation if you watched all of them (i havent theres about 8 of them) ... its something like he gos forward in time to the planent of apes (earth) blows it up but apes escape come back in time to earth get killed but have a baby which gets raised by grollias and somehow they become smart apes but slaves to the humans but cant talk (irony) ... they over throw the humans and the humans become the slaves ... he shows up blows it up and then apes escapse etc ... paradox :)

no no the apes learned to talk from the humans but when the humans becamse the slaves the humans forgot (we're stupid like that i guess) :)

but anyway i did enjoy the new movie it was good and you should go see it ... its different enough from the first one to be worth watching but try and not compare it to much too the first one :)

Well........

I saw it. I was enjoying my self thought the entire movie. The explanation for the ape infestation is more plausible then the one in the original. Gret makeup. The apes in this one are SCARY. And the cameos were hilarious.

I had a MAJOR problem with the ending though. It made absolutely no sense whatsoever. It was just thrown in for kicks. I have a problem with that.

Anyway, on the whole a good flick :)

I have not seen it YET, though the Trailers on the Internet and TV look really good and I have heard some very very good reviews from it. I liked the original with Heston........."Get your goddamn hands of me you damn monkey!!!!!!"

My favorite summer movie!

I was always wary of this movie when it was first announced. As a fan of the original, I dreaded the thought of Hollywood cashing in on another classic movie. When I heard that Tim Burton was directing, it eased my mind somewhat... but there was still some trepidation.

I advise you to go see this movie! It offers a completely new vision of the story, while retaining some of the elements that made the original such a classic.

I even think that I'm beginning to understand the ending. I may be way off-base, but I'm interested in seeing how close my hypothesis comes... especially if they make a sequel. Judging by the numbers so far, I think that might be a safe bet!

Go see it... it kicks ass!

he is my fav actor ... i didnt even know he was in the movie until someone told me afterwards :) ... he gets into the role very well

what i thought was cool was that you could almost see it from his point of view too .... the way he cared for his father and his friend ... made the character more intresting then most bad guys in films :)

Yep... the scene with his father definitely gave him a reason to be so cold and ruthless. There was a lot riding on his success or failure!

Okay I finally saw it, and enjoyed it, and wouldn't mind seeing it again, and the ending is great, but in 30 years it will be an asterisk next to the Charlton Heston verison.

A teensy-weensy little asterisk.

Heston was an unnerving anti-hero who debated morality, humanity and dignity with an arch eloquence, and Walburg was a fuck-up running through the scary woods and saying pointless things like "How did these monkeys get like this?" There's not even a tiny comparison between the two heros. Heston's astronaut was a smarmy misanthrope whose pique at humanity was brought into thrilling metaphorical relief, while the most interesting thing Walburg's pilot did was to make some monkees go boom.

ALL the decent motivation, background stories, dialogue and character development were given to the apes. And I'm convinced that Tim Roth could play Richard III with a paper bag over his head.

I like Walburg. He can act. And a lot's been said about his inability to "Carry" this movie. But I have to say, it's not really his fault. He has nothing to do but run and run and run, and say "Come on!", and run some more, and then push a few buttons on a gizmo, and then run a little bit more, and...you get the idea.

The plot is very imaginative. Though, if you've read the book the ending is not a surprise. I was expecting it 30 seconds into the film. And that was okay, because Burton REALLY did it well. Not only was the ending appropriately nightmarish, but it beautifully set up high adventure expectations for a sequel (as opposed to the stupid "I wonder where the pretty birds are going?" ending of "Jurassic Park III").

I was off-put by the two "original film call-back" lines (the "Damn dirty humans" and the "Damn them all to hell" bits). They were done sort of ham-handed, and only served to pull me out of the story and made me think things like "Oh, they're just actors in make-up who were probably watching the Heston verison on DVD in their trailers just before they shot this scene." I don't mind cute references like that, but the movie was good enough without them. Putting Heston in ape make-up was clever enough, they didn't need to sledge-hammer the wit by clumsily sticking in the first film lines.

I loved the wider range of apes the FX and make-up people created, too. (Although, the movie doesn't make clear where all the varieties came from.)

And one last thing that bugged me -- they set the story in the year 2029. That's only 28 years from now. Are we going to have one man pods that can achieve orbit and enormous spaceships orbiting Saturn in 28 years? Man, we'll be lucky to have a Zip drive installed on the International Space Station by then. Couldn't they have have pushed it a bit further into the future? I mean, a picture like this puts a lot of pressure on the aeorspace industry.

So, all in all, a fun time was had by all, and I'm looking forward to a sequel, but if you're looking for classic science fiction, well, make sure your ape suit has Roddy McDowell in it.

"(Although, I don't recall that wide a range of apes in the spaceship -- seems to me all the apes in the spaceship were of one species -- so where did all the varieties come from?)"

Gee, thank you, I haven't seen the movie but I just figured out where the apes came from. Hey, didn't you read the part were Siren said "Dont give it away, just discuss what you thought.I dont want to ruin it for others."?
Or at least put the word 'spoiler' at the beginning of your post.

You're right. Sorry. But, honestly, it's not a surprise. It's pretty much given away abour 7 minutes into the film, and this is NOT the surprise ending everyone is talking about. Don't think the movie's spoiled, because it isn't.

Still, I'll go back and edit. You should probably do the same.

(By the way, if you're really worried about things like this, you should have done what I did -- I didn't read ANY of this thread until after I saw the film. People are bound to discuss some specific plot points, after all. I placed a giant SPOILER in front of my JPIII thread, so I understand the need for surprise. Go see "Apes". Nothing said above will ruin it for you.)
