Oh, God. An American airlines Boeing 767 is down in Queens according to TV. Here we go again...

Images on TV are of the black smoke from the crashed plane, no one knows what happened to it yet. It crashed about 1/2 hour ago near JFK airport.

Kennedy airport is now closed.

Yeah.. I'm seeing it, too.. Fucking A.. I swear.. If this is another terrorist stint, I'm going to be forced to fire off rapid hate posts in order to vent.. I guess only time will tell just who or what caused the plane to go down..

Unconfirmed is that it crashed while landing. It could be mechanical failure (weather is another clear blue sky, beautiful day.)

NBC is talking about the area near the airport being filled with single family homes. Buildings are burning, too.

The emergency response workers headed to the scene are the same people who responded to the Sept. 11 WTC attack, per NBC reports.

Now they are saying it was an Airbus which was taking off, not a 767 which was landing. On its way to Dominican Republic.

Several eyewitnesses, on TV, are saying they saw a flash (similar to an explosion) on the rightside body of the plane while in the air.

NBC reports FAA knew there was a problem because they lost communication with the flight shortly after take off.

246 people scheduled to take this flight.

Military fighter planes were in the air flying but they are claiming that military was not notified of a problem with this flight.

Eye witness says debris falling from the sky, flames from an engine before crash.

My girlfriend and I decide last night that our Chritmas holiday would definitely be in the U.S. We're not religious but it is the biggest Christian festival and it seemed an appropriate way to show support and solidarity. Engine failure seems to be the concensus so far. Engine found in separate spot from plane on the ground.

Based on eyewitness accounts about a flash place the flash in the baggage compartment or fuel compartment. Another witness says first a flash then seconds later an engine was on fire.

Still.. The engine fell off.. Big deal.. It's the explosion part that makes me wonder.. The plane's designed so that the engines will fall off if they seize so you can continue to fly the plane.. This is getting interesting..

The plane came down in a section of Queens which was hard hit by the loss of firefighters in the Sept 11 attack already. Now they have homes and shops burning in their neighborhood. Those poor people.

News people can't get close to the scene, can't have helicopters fly over the crash site due to new rules in place for airspace after Sept. 11. Most pictures on TV are from a great distance.

Got the T.V. on right now, and from what I'm hearing, I'm gonna agree with everyone esle on the engine bit.

As far as this being a terrorist attack? I dont see it, but it still is a possibility......

I have some ideas.

1) Assume the best, prepare for the worst. This means assume that it was what it appears to be on the surface. A plane crash with no ulterior motive behind it. Be prepared in case it's not, but don't just assume that.

2) Breathe. Don't panic because you can make other people panic. Herd mentality. We are herd critters after all, you know. Keep a level head here.

3) Don't read anything into it. It's this day, it's been so long, the numbers have significance, there were this that happened like that. Do not editorialize it. Facts only. Editorialization leads to fear which leads to panic.

Facts: A plane went down after its engines fell off. That is all we know. Don't speculate. Don't consider. Don't blow it all out of proportion.

Plane accidents happen. If it turns out to be something other than a plane accident, then you can speculate and consider. But think about this before you do, what can you do about it? What can be done? The things that you are saying and doing affect those around you. Fear and panic are things that build up. Watch what you say so that it doesn't happen. You can talk about things without building up to hysteria.

So turn off the news, guys. Close down the CNN browser window. Don't turn into a news junkie. Don't let the reporters do your speculating for you. Facts only.
