Plagiarized

I am just SO angry! I just discovered that one of my stories, "Camera Action," posted on 05/27/02 was ripped off by someone who did little more than change the character names and retitled the work as "Daddies Little Slut Exposed" posted on 01/23/03. Granted, they got away with having it posted for nearly a year before I discovered the plagiarism but that doesn't excuse the fact that someone else is taking credit for my original work.

I've been searching aroung the FAQ pages but haven't been able to find out what Literotica's policy is for dealing with stories plagiarized from the site being posted on the site. I'm sure I'm not the only author this has happened to. If this has happened to anyone else on the site, how was it handled?

Thanks.

There is a specific button at the bottom of every story
(and every contribution to this board) labeled "report this
post to a moderator," or words to that effect.
What I would do is get the precise URL of your story, then
click on the offending story, then use that button. One of
your choices after you've used it is to report copyright
violation. Do so, and give the details including the URL
of your story.
I'll admit I haven't done precisely that, not having had
your problem. But that should get some results.
Another thing you might do is to get copies of all the
other stories that author claims to have written. Then
choose a long phrase from each that doesn't involve
any names. Google on each and see if you can spot other
stories he has stolen.

Parris, contact Laurel (either through e-mail or via PM) and she'll be able to take care of it.

There was a similar situation posted here a couple weeks back, but it was a story copied from another site (different author's name, too), so I doubt it's related.

A Private Message to Laurel should take care of it too. I can't find it now, but I know the policy for plagiarism used do be to remove all stories and ban the offenders.

Dear Par,
If the following are factual, you should have the plagarizer cold:
1. Your story was posted on Lit in 5/02
2, The other story was posted on Lit 1/03
3. The differences are as minor as you state.
Assuming the above are true, I'm sure Laurel will remove the later story.

It would seem appropriate that some punishment be meted out to someone who plagarizes the work of another and has the gall to post it on the same site. Simply removing the offending work doesn't seem adequate. I think, in a clear case of plagarism, that:
1. The name of the offender should be posted clearly on Lit for all to see.
2. The plagarizer be barred from submitting anything for a year.

It might also be appropriate to remove the plagarizer's other stories from Lit for a few months.
Sympathetically,
MG
Ps. I do so envy someone who writes something good enough for someone to want to steal it. Nobody has ever wanted my stuff.
Pps. Obviously, I hadn't read Lauren H's post above when I wrote this. It seems that punishments are alread in place to deal with this stuff. Good.

On the other hand, not many of us, if any have been asked to write stories for an Aussie pimp site either. :(

Thanks everyone

Just to update you. I did send an email to Laurel and she was absolutely wonderful, addressing the matter immediately. I thank her SO VERY MUCH. This was the first time something like this has happened to me and really, it just blew me away.

Thank you, everyone for your support.

Parris

(P.S. I'm not sure if it is a compliment to be ripped off so blatantly or an insult because someone thinks the work is so obscure no one will notice! :) )

Dear Gauchie,
Oh, yeah. I'd forgotten about that.

Compliment, definitely a compliment!

And to be sure that the bastard/bitch doesn't merely change his/her alias and start submitting stories again, the IP-adress of his/her computer should be blocked.
That would make it a bit harder for the SOB/DOB to re-enter Literotica!

Yo!

Hiya, Svenska,

I was looking for one when I got back...

I've been to Stockholm for the weekend, to celebrate my grandmother, who had her 80th birthday on Saturday.

Spending a weekend with my relatives always brings up the question "Why don't we meet more often?", but before the weekend is over, that question is usually answered.

This time, the topic of the fight was Racism.
Me and grandma vs my dad, my uncle, and two of my aunts.

This bodes well for the future...
