PHP is the script language the BB software is written in. The PHP and CODE tags are used to put programming code in your posts that DOESN'T execute. The PHP tags apply syntax formatting to highlight certain parts of the code automatically.

FWIW, be very careful about using colors in your posts, because it can cause seizures in epileptics if you catch the right combination of colors.
