I started with symptoms a couple of weeks ago, went to the doctor, she gave me a scrip for antibiotics, I took them, I drank cranberry juice, I did (and had been doing) everything you're supposed to do, but on Wednesday the symptoms started to creep back, and now they're here.

I remember going through this 5 years ago. I hope to God I don't end up fighting this all summer and then having to go in for another urinoscopy.

I am going to consume all the antibiotics that other members of my family were supposed to have taken and did not finish, and see how I feel. Yes, I know you are not supposed to do this, but dammit, they're paid for.

Later on this month I have an appointment with my gynecologist--maybe she can do something for me. After all, it's in the same general neighborhood.

Feh.:(

Try Uva Ursi and nettle tea or nettle soup.
Anti-biotics can actually make UTI's worse, especially if they're not prescribed.
And drink lots and lots of water.

Don't take the antibiotics if they aren't prescribed - they may make things worse, or give you a yeast infection right on top of the UTI.

Yeah, I'll echo what everyone else says. Only take a complete and perscribed dose of antibiotics or you'll get resistant to them and really be in trouble. Drink plenty of water and avoid anything with dyes, caffeine and sugar. Hope you get better soon. :rose:

The antibiotics don't always help; it depends on exactly why the UTI is so persistent. The unprescribed ones may help or they may not; not all bacteria respond to every antibiotic out there. Things like nettle tea (already suggested) and yarrow tea have antibiotic AND anti-yeast properties...but because they're herbal teas they work with your body, rather than just wiping out all the bacteria they see. Look for these and drink a mug of it at least three times daily. Also drink lots and lots of water and cranberry juice or take a good cranberry supplement daily (a good alternative if you're starting to feel like you're floating away on the juice). Stay away from anything caffeinated, carbonated or alcoholic; these tend to irritate bladder tissue and will only make the infection harder to get rid of.

I know your frustration; I've been having problems with UTI's for a year now. They're horrible little buggers. :(

What's Uva Ursi? Nevermind, I'll Google it...I assume that it and the nettle can be gotten at a health food store?

Yup. Aka bear berry.

'Round here you can pick nettles from any hedgerow, but it may be different in the States. You can get nettle tincture from any good health store.

I went to Native Sun and was so pleased to find bearberry capsules (I also got some cranberry extract tablets) that I forgot all about looking for the nettle tea. I might look for the nettle tea tomorrow. In the meantime, I've started taking the bearberry capsules.

No caffeine, carbonated stuff or sugar? Oh my God. Probably explains why I never kick it off but seriously, I might as well just die. :(

From someone who has dealt with recurrent UTI for the past several years, I empathize SlickTony. :rose:

This is the third day (2 1/2?) or so that I've taken the bearberry capsules. So far, I am not feeling any worse, and sometimes feel better. I've been drinking water all day, plus taking Azo tablets...that's phenazopyridine, which is generally prescribed for UTIs, although I got this stuff at the drugstore. Azo, I've about decided, serves more to make you feel like you're DOING SOMETHING about your condition than anything else, except for making your pee this extreme shade of orange.

I have not allowed it to get in the way of sex too much.
