Pirates 3!!!!

Would it hold the interest of two small boys (aged 9 and 7) who loved the first movie, but the little one frightens easy? Or would I do better to wait and buy the DVD?

Saw a Friday matinee. One word...Fanfuckingtastic! Just wish the person I saw it with would have shut the fuck up. LMAO

Naw, I think they'd love it. It's definitely got some nice action sequences that ought to hold their interest, unless they can't sit still for 3 hours solid, then you might should wait for the DVD. Also, there wasn't anything that I would consider startling or frightening, like the kracken in the second one.

Hi Starrkers -
the beginning scenes are way way tough (STOP READING IF YOU DONT WANT SPOILING)

I took my 10- and 13-year-old boys and the start had me cringing. There were hundreds of people being hanged. Just line em up and hang six, then do the next six. The scene that really bothered me was they hung a little boy. He looked to be twelve. There was no outcry, no hesitancy on the part of the hangman, he just pulled up a small keg for the boy to stand on because he was too short to reach the noose. Yes, there was plenty of action and fun afterward, but why did they have to do this?

I would either wait with the little ones, or distract them during that scene, remind them its only a movie - not sure how you can make this un-traumatic though

There's a scene at the end? Dang, I watched the entire thing, credits and all. They probably didn't play it where I'm at. I liked it okay, but I don't know if it was because I had greater expectations for it, because I enjoyed 1 and 2 way more than this one.
Yep, sure enough. PM me if you want to know the details.

I'm now wondering if you saw the same movie the critics did? Not a single critic here in Toronto liked it.

But they are critics after all. They're not supposed to like anything. They're also probably so sick of watching movies they're planning on nuking Hollywood in their spare time. ;)

Unless you're talking about the movie critic whores Ebert & Roeper, who like all kinds of trash!

It was good, but not as good as the second one.

Not a ringing endorsement since two was mediocre. Great effects and Captain jack is awesome, but... My daughter said wait for the DVD. So, I'm torn about seeing it on the big screen.

If you think about it, everyone was so flabbergasted by the first, that they were in awe and over two years of not having a move, they have built it up so much in their minds, that they aren't impressed by the actuality of the second or even third, due to the same thing. I think all three were fantastic. I don't think any of the acting was diminished and I think that continuing on (with the same actors only) would be a great thing.

That's a good point - expectations being so high that anything would be a disappointment. Some of the movies I've enjoyed most I saw not knowing what to expect and had zero expectations.

Just saw it tonight. :D Just a tip for everyone if it hasn't already been said, but make sure you wait through the credits after the movie. There's a scene at the end.

Bah!! I missed it! Grrrrrrrr

I would have too if my sister hadn't been there. Our other sister saw it while she was at college and told us about it. I was surprised at how many people stayed through everything.

Well, there was something at the end of the second one, so I guess people expected it.

That's what my sister said. :p

I didn't see the thing at the end of the second one...

I still don't know when I'm seeing three either...

We went to see it today - me and my almost-7-year-old.

We loved it. :D

The hanging thing at the beginning didn't bother him at all - he's old enough to understand that it's just a movie. It did run a little long for him, though, and he was beginning to get a little antsy towards the end.

Definitely worth seeing at the theater. I don't think the battle scenes would work near as well on a tv.

I loved Pirates 3. Best movie of the summer. I hope they make more and with how 3 ended, it seems they will.

I want to see this so badly! I just rewatched 1 & 2 a couple of days ago. Personally, I didn't think the second one was anywhere near the caliber of the first, so I hope this one isn't a disappointment.

I liked 3 much, much better than 2. It was certainly worth going to the theater to see.

It wasn't disappointing in the least, says someone who was expecting to be disappointed. Oh sure, it wasn't the movie I would have made, but let's face it, my movie would never get past the censors anyway...

Of the three main characters, this is, most of all, Elizabeth's story.

Yep. Gotta love Barbossa, too. :D

Yeah, I read an interview with the writer's who concluded that the entire trilogy was about Elizabeth. The thing that was great is seeing it in a theater with people.

I saw Dead Man's Chest in a packed theater and when Barbossa showed up at the end, the entire theater erupted. That happened a bunch of times when I saw At World's End.
