I've never been on a picnic and I let my big mouth ask someone on a picnic date. What do I need? What kind of food? what kind of drink? Please help

Picnics are wonderful, and they can be as simple or as fancy as you like. Mr. bobsgirl and I used to picnic at the park when we were first married (awww...) with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and grapes.
Finger foods are best, I think, so you don't have to mess around with silverware and stuff. Cubes or slices of cheese, sliced French bread, and fruit would be yummy. Or get take-out from a good deli. And just so you don't spend the following day in the bathroom with food poisoning, remember to keep cold things cold.

Where are you picnic-ing? I'm envious. Think I'll go find Mr.b and see if he wants to dine al fresco;)

Have a great time!

probably in a forest preserve. Thanks for the advice ..should I ask her what kind of foods she wants or do I surprise her?

You might want to check if she's a vegitarian or anything? Maybe a bottle of wine?

There is several ways to handle this, either getting all items together and preparing them yourself or getting assistance.

Basic items list;

Picnic Basket, Picnic Blanket, Wine Glasses, Utensils, Napkins, Champagne/ non alchoholic equivalent or both, meal with dessert

Meal;

Can be fancier and served on plates or more simpler fare with the above recommendations of finger foods by bobsgirl being an excellent idea

Optional items;

Umbrella for rough weather or shielding her from sun, flowers or gift(s) if you feel comfortable doing so, music

A concession stand in a park works to with sharing a special location or viewpoint you wish to share with her.

If you choose to gather all items yourself then its a bit more work the first time.. but after that it gets easier.

Also one can purchase basic above mentioned items with a picnic basket or cooler ( some areas hotter then others ) and there are insulated picnic baskets in many areas to. Then take the basket to a dining establishment and tell the management that you want. With allowances for variety, her possibly being a vegetarian, allergies she may have and other considerations which these professionals can think of.

Other than that I hope the picnic goes wonderful for you both. As like all things the first time in any thing isnt always the easiest but can make for great memories.

Good Luck :)

The above link is a great recipe for fried chicken. Make the chicken yourself. Get a picnic basket (if you don't have one), pack it with the fried chicken, napkins, a bottle of white wine (if you both, or more importantly, she fancies it), a thick blanket to sit on, some plates, and a few of those handy wipe things.

I believe she'll appreciate the trouble you went through to find the recipe and cooking the food. Good luck.

All the above is great advice, i think picnics are lovely and very romantic! Make sure you pack plenty of food but don't pack too much that carring your picnic would be difficault! Although i am sure it'd be lovely to be surprised by the food, if you don't know if she has any allergies or anything you're probably best asking her beforehand.

I say keep it simple and you can't go wrong!

enjoy your picnic!

Keep things such as weather, bugs, proximity (sp.?) to bathroom all in mind. Someone else mentioned handy wipes, I was thinking the same exact thing, they are a must! Don't forget a bottle opener if you are bringing wine. Fresh fuit, with maybe some whipped cream would make a great dessert. I would go with finger sandwiches or something similiar to eat. Nothing that requires a knife or fork.

Thank you for the advice. The date is a week from today so keep any advice you have coming. Thank you again, I'm sure she will enjoy this picnic.

Hmmm.. Picnic dates...

I usually go for finger foods, soda and ice water, and a blanket is way important. Also, we usually snag a few pillows. Sunscreen, especially if you end up in an isolated enough place to go nekkid.. Nekkid in the woods on a warm sunny day with just your sweetie.. Life is good....
