OOC: Okay, Renegade, I was inspired after watching a movie. It's been a while since I was 18 *giggles* but I think I can remember the important stuff.
IC: I sighed as I looked in the mirror. Today I was 18. Not that it mattered. In two days, I was going to a party where my brother Nick's best friend, Eric, was supposed to be. He's 20 and soooooo hot. I've had a crush on him forever, but he treats me like a kid. I guess it hasn't helped that I've been a prank pulling tomboy most of my life; pulling many of my best pranks on him.
I was sitting and agonizing over my frumpy boyish clothes and frizzy hair and braces when my mom walked in.
"Ready to go, Tiff?" she asked.
I smiled broadly and for real. One, because this was the last time my teeth would be covered with braces and two becuase....damn! This was the last time my teeth would be covered with braces!!!!
"Mom," I asked, "do you suppose we could go to the mall and get me an outfit to wear to the party on Saturday?"
"I had some plans along those lines, sweetie," she replied cryptically.
************
The day was a whirlwind! First to the orthodontist to get my braces off. Then to the mall where we first went to get my hair styled. It was usually just limp or frizzy. The stylist gave me a cut and style that made me feel almost pretty. And he put something on it that made it just beautiful. Mom bought three bottles of it for me. We then went to the makeup counter and for over an hour I sat and learned how to put on makeup and mom bought all of that too. I'd never worn makeup before, but looking at myself in the mirror after, I just stared.
"I always knew there was a beautiful woman behind that rough exterior," mom whispered.
The rest of the day was spent buying new clothes. No more boy's jeans. No more baggy jerseys. By evening, we were exhausted, but I felt wonderful. Walking in the high heels was still difficult, but I got a pair so I could practice. When we got home, I saw Eric's car in the driveway behind
Nick's car and started to get nervous. I didn't want to tell Mom about my crush on him, so I just grabbed my bags and hurried up to my room.
I was wearing some of my new stuff, a tight knit top that showed off breasts I didn't know I had and a pair of girl's jeans. I hadn't expected Eric to notice me, he usually didn't.
But he could hardly not notice me when I ran smack into him in the hallway. I dropped several packages and said "excuse me" and started to pick them up.
Eric bent down immediately and helped me. "Sorry. I wasn't looking where I was going," he said. "I didn't know the Anderson's had company."
"Company?" I asked looking up finally. "It's me...Tiff."
"Tiffany?"
