Hi all, there wasnt a thread here to discuss these topics so I thought I'd start one off. This thread is meant for discussing physics, which inevitably leads to philosophical and existential questions, and god is not far away from those topics. Now since talking about god is unavoidable here, I would request you all to be respectful to each other beliefs.

I have no formal education in physics , but the internet lets us amateurs explore the world of physics from the astronomical to the quantum level, with some excellent vids and series on youtube. I would love for this thread to be a place where people can talk, discuss , share new vids and basically talk all things intellectual , things that affect humanity on a greater scale. And i hope there some people with a formal science education that can guide us to new material.

The universe is so massive, and the sheer size and possibilities out there is what realy attracts me to explore it more. Ill start off with a couple short and long vids :

Short vids (~10 mins)

Gravity Visualized

What if the earth stopped Spinning - Vsauce This guys is pure awesomeness , highly recommend you to check out his channel.

Long Vids

Michio Kaku - The universe in a nutshell

There are some great series on the space , like Carl Segan's - Cosmos or the one narrated by Morgan Freeman.

Lets discuss everything intellectual GB.

I like the episode where he has the brain coral transplant and gets really smart for a while.

You're not fooling anyone here into thinking that you're smart or deep.

Where were we before we were born?

You mean like before we were created?

In what world??

Never saw any Philosophy or Religion sections in any of my physics, chem or bio books.

It never rained in the Garden of Eden. Water just came up out of the ground every so often. In fact, it never rained until the time of Noah. So Noah and his family were the first people to survive taking a shower.

Noah created wine and getting drunk. He stripped naked in front of his kids, perpetuating the notion that all humans are descended from a naked guy.

At Babel the people built a tall tower which angered God. He confused their language in order to keep people from getting together to make anything so big again. It didn't take long for them to overcome that obstacle and build those huge temples that God likes.

God uses the earth's relative position to the sun for a couple of oddball reasons. When Joshua fought the Amorites he called on God to stop the sun so that the battle could continue longer. This was just after God dealt a severe blow to the Amorite army with a very selective hailstorm.

Hezekiah needed a sign from Isaiah that God spoke to him, so he asked God to move the sun a few degrees backwards. Later, God moved it forwards again.

Well, no, actually.

why not ? learning about astronomy and space and time will inevitably lead to questioning whether its all a creation or not.

You're not fooling anyone here into thinking that you're smart or deep.

And you are not fooling anyone into thinking you are 'curvy' , you fatty. Going on my ignore list cause your AV is repulsive.

yeah well the former 2 are not exact sciences, hence why schools don't have it in curriculum .

Hello, Mellow, I am the notorious Amicus, making a house call...

You will never get a rational discussion among the denizens of the GB and I will explain why that is.

A meaningful discussion, not just the exchange of opinions, requires the comprehension and acceptance of the basic and fundamental aspects of existence.

That would be, as a start, existence exists... A is A... a thing is what it is....

secondly, that existence, whatever it is composed of, can be accurately viewed and understood by the mind of a man.

That existence contains absolute characteristics and constants, such as the speed of light in a vacuum, unchanging anywhere at any time.

Philosophy, the love of knowledge, as defined, is the lifelong acquisition of verifiable facts concerning humanity at all levels.

Before philosophy, there was religion, which attempted to answer the same questions about humanity and failed. Thus, any discussion of a supreme being is irrelevant.

Aristotle, I think, said, 'of all the pursuits mankind can enjoy, the greatest pleasure is obtained from learning...

Oh good, the person who insists Ayn Rand has sold more books than any other author in history and that all women are cunts and should never have been allowed the vote pops in to let the OP know that everyone else here is an idiot.

Great Post, wish there were more like you on the forumsD
You'll soon regret wishing there were more here like him. Well, unless you enjoy a good laugh at another's expense.
