Couple of questions:

What are the cheapest general purpose, decent quality digital cameras out there, and the best places to buy them?

Recommendations on solid laptops....

Last but not least, how about a photo gallery Literotica costume party? Say from October 1st to the 31st...

Toshiba

Probably one of the best laptops around for durability and reliability... and a broad price range depending on what you want or need.

Hey, I got one of those too!

Great photo! Just enough skin to entice, just the right setting to amuse. Keep it u_ (no pun intended, honest !;o)

I've got an "old" toshiba 133 mhz that I use for all my writing. It's just a little too small for photos and music.

The next step is where to get these toys?

My Digital Camera is an RCA CDS1005, purchased from Walmart for $80. It is only 640x480 resolution, and doesn't have a preview lcd or replacable memory. It's the digital equivalent of a an Instamatic 110 snapshot camera.

My Neighbor has a Sony Mavica-CD that uses Mini CD's for Storage, can do almost anything a 35MM Slr can do. He got it used at a pawn shop for $200. New at Circuit City or simialr store, it's about $600.

It all depends on what you want a digital camera for and how much your budget can stand. If I could afford my neighbor's camera I'd have one too, but the litttle pocket sized RCA is much easier to pack around and operate.

I want to be able to focus manually, zoom and widen the angle as well. I also use minidisks in a sony music player. Is this the same technology?

The Sony Mavica CD sounds like the camera you want. Check out a review here:

It's the same size disk, but these are formatted as re-writable data CD's. The interface to the camera makes it appear as a CDRW drive using Adtaptec DiretCD software through the USB ports. It comes with an adapter ring to use the disks in a normal CDRW drive that doesn't have a center post the disk snaps onto.

My personal...

...favourite.

Fuji Finepix 6900Z. I'm not sure about it in the US--over here it's around £700 but to get more on a digicam you have to move up to the Nikon and Canon Ds or the Fuji S1. Quick rollout of features...

6.2 megapixel Super CCD, full manual on everything including focussing, 35-210mm lens plus lenses for 28mm or 300mm, mini electronic viewfinder, fast 2.8 lens, hot shoe. Has gotten stupendous ratings over here and I use it all the time for studio work.

There are lots of good ones out there though. Good luck.

Thanks!

Your info is great!

And you're right, I don't want or need to go
up to the Nikon/Canon rarefied level.

Thanks again.

Try the "free stuff" sites. Many of them are giving them away with just the price of the shipping and handling. In fact, iwon.com has one on its site too.

Sort of a new twist...

...on the old expression "can't give it away?"

Just kidding. The technology changes so fast that digicams are "obsolete" tomorrow. Of course, they aren't really--they still take pictures that satisfied you when you bought them.

I'd purchased a Fuji Finepix 4900 for £620. Two months later the 6900 with more resolutions came out for £650. Eeh Aww.
