I was unsure whether to post this here on in "How to" and if I am in the wrong corner of the board, admins please feel free to put the thread into the right place.

Anyways, I would like to learn about photography and how to take nicer pictures with my digital camera. I looked at a few books and some sites online but it all seems quite ... elaborate. Do you know of any good sources where a beginner could start? Any forums where you like to converse with people into photography that also has a newbie section with dummy compatible explanations?

I am not specifically looking to learn about erotic photography but will have a bit of free time in the next few weeks and would enjoy to spend some of it by taking a few pictures and to do so with some background knowledge.

Thank you for your help! :)

Depending on what kind of time you want to give, and resources, but if you are hands on, check with your local Community College. When I got my digital SLR I took a weekend workshop that was four hours over two days. It taught basics, like lighting, subject positioning, simple effects. I think it cost $40 and was taught by a photography student.

You had to know how to use your own camera, as there were people there with simple digital point and shoots, up to quite expensive camera equipment.

I have a hard time reading something technical and then applying, so it was perfect for me.
