Nurse surrenders license over photo of patient's genitals
CBS News 2 hours 59 minutes ago .

FULTON, N.Y. --An upstate New York nurse convicted of taking a photo of an unconscious patient's penis with her iPhone last year has surrendered her license, reports CBS affiliate WSTM. Kristen Johnson pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disseminating of unlawful surveillance photos, and as part of a plea deal agreed to give up her license and spend three years on probation. Johnson was the focus of a nine-month investigation after coworkers at Upstate University Hospital told authorities that she sent pictures of two patients via text message. Investigators said Johnson used an iPhone 5 to photograph an incapacitated male patient's genitals. She was originally charged with two counts of second-degree ...

I can go along with it, if the patient was Average Andy. However, if it was Heavy Hung Harvey, some jail time was needed. JMNTHO

I lived on the Canadian border about an hour from there for a year and a half. Once you get more than 25 miles east of Buffalo, the cows outnumber the people and they are both easily bored and amused.

Hey, that's my dear old childhood home you're talking about

But I can't disagree.

I lived on the Canadian border about an hour from there for a year and a half. Once you get more than 25 miles east of Buffalo, the cows outnumber the people and they are both easily bored and amused.

Not by capturing and disseminating images of bovine genitalia, I hope.

That's one of those questions I discovered you were better off not asking. ;)
It was a rhetorical question. Whew.

ObTopic: First, it's interesting that she "pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disseminating of unlawful surveillance photos". Did she snap shots with her own cam, or hack the hospital's surveillance system, or what?

I expect many hospitals going to ubiquitous surveillance which of course is susceptible to hacking. We can expect many such leaks in the future, maybe with anatomies shooped (*) to punch-up their, ah, unique qualities. We can expect the rise of underground networks of illicit sharers of such photos, but unless the subjects are underage, there won't be much official LEO response.

Farm animal genitalia are another matter. At least one USA state has banned photographing farm animals even from public property as an invasion of the farmer's privacy and trade secrets. Photos of bull-balls might reveal too much about the technology involved in his breeding. Et fucking cetera.

(*) Shoop: to alter with PhotoShop or similar image editors.

If a guy did it to a woman and started a web site for the pics he'd be a hero and nothing would be wrong at all.

Should the "injured" patient be able to claim licensing rights (or even compensation).

I would assume the patient has some expectation of privacy in a hospital setting. Yet in this day and age of smart phone with cameras, that expectation would probably very low. Yet again, it is New York the second largest nanny state, yes I know upstate New York is a little less liberal than New York City, in America.

She used her own phone and then sent the pic(s) to colleagues at her (former) hospital.

She had also taken a video of another nurse cleaning an incapacitated female patient’s gastrointestinal blood clot.

In other words, this was not a one-time, inadvertent event.

What I want to know is why the author of the article felt compelled write that the nurse used an iPhone-5 to snap the photos.
Is there suspicion that there are more photos?
Does someone expect the FBI to get involved to unlock the dick pics?

As a patient, I would assume my privates came under the protection of HIPAA, which is a Federal law in the US.

When I go into a hospital, I do worry about picking up viral and other infections; I'd prefer not to worry about my privates going viral.

If she had been a male doctor she could have got away with it for years and just been cautioned by medical disciplinary authorities once caught. Then allowed to move to another state to continue practice.

Was a good job and career worth a few pics of probably well hung men? The WWW is full of them. Stupid, selfish and short-sighted. Professional suicide and shaming for a cock pic. sheesh, you would think she was a man or something.

Oh! And this interest authors because...? The GB is now leaking over to other threads like the political one.

I thought so. Thus if a staff member privately photographs the institutionalized, it's 'surveillance'?

Dare we assume that this was a 'lurid' event, not an 'educational' thing ?
OR: Two nurse having a giggle at Average Andy

We all seem to be assuming the photo was of a larger than usual appendage. What if the opposite was true? What if she was spreading photos of the guy in room 1A that has am exceptionally small penis?

Or oddly-shaped.

It's irrelevant why she took the picture, the point being a) she shouldn't have done so in the first place and b) what was an unclean cell phone doing in an operating room? Hospitals are already the worst place to get an infection yet the surgeon, and everyone else in the room, didn't notice this diseases-infected device being whipped out?

The first part is pretty much what I said, nice to see someone else agree.

Same double standard as the teacher fucking a student, the women's careers are over plus jail, the guys? No big deal, its expected.

This is why I have fun writing stories where men get brutally butchered.

As to the last part of your post, the excuse here will be 'it could be a plot bunny for a story' truth is a few posters here like to discuss non writing things, but don't want to start threads in the GB because its a pit.
