Phantom Readers

I think only when the phantom readers start sending feedback telling you your story is crap that you better start worrying! :D

I have one pending story right now that has nine views. None of them are mine. I check on my submissions page frequently for various reasons but I almost never open a pending story. I have one that is only a very minor change in the description and it has nine views.

Laurel works hard.

If, as many claim, Laurel is a unique person who does all the editing pre-posting, then she works very hard.

There are about 40 postings a day, on average. Most of them seem to get five or six "reads". Stories average just over one Lit Page, or about 4000 words.

SO, Laurel reads 160K words a day, 365 days a year (more this year), involving over two hundred separate new file accesses.

Assuming a forty-eight hour working week (which is the legal maximum long term average in the UK) that is a read rate of 23k words an hour (plus the file handling time).

She really does work very hard.
