Organizers of a Republican-backed Michigan petition to enact voter restrictions to combat would-be voter fraud missed the state's filing deadline on Wednesday after discovering tens of thousands of fraudulent signatures.

Michigan Republicans are backing the citizen initiative petition known as Secure MI Vote, which would impose strict voter ID requirements, restrict absentee voting and ban private donations that help keep polling places open.
now why would they NOT want to keep voting places open, hmmn? anyone? 🤫

The announcement came just days after the state's Bureau of Elections and Board of Canvassers disqualified five of the 10 Republicans running for governor, including frontrunners James Craig and Perry Johnson, after discovering that thousands of the signatures on the petitions they circulated to qualify for the ballot were fraudulent. The Bureau of Elections identified 36 petition circulators who submitted at least 68,000 fraudulent signatures in the gubernatorial primary, as well as in nine other nominating contests. Craig and Johnson argued they were victims of the fraud, not its perpetrators, but a court upheld both of their disqualifications this week.

This is likely not fraud by the candidates or campaigns, but rather simple bad management and oversight of contractors they hired. There is no indication any of the campaigns were involved or even knew about it, just that they all hired the same canvassing contractor.

they're responsible for hiring decent contractors. There is no proof, as yet, either way about the campaigns' knowledge of what was really going on but, ultimately, the buck stops with the campaigns. If they have been the victims of fraud, they must sue.

IOW, it's exactly like that ACORN "scandal."

  • During the 2008 elections, a few ACORN employees engaged in fraud. However, this was not ballot box stuffing as many claim, but falsification of voter registration forms in order to get paid for work they didn't do. In other words, laziness rather than conspiracy. The FBI was even called in and found no evidence of "widespread fraud."

And now for something completely not different .....

Rebuilding grassroots organization takes some time. The Pubbies were the party of write a check for everything, but they are losing heavy donors.

True, but we are talking about the party of Personal Responsibility with a capital PR. The buck stops where?
