I have a new pet peeve. Why do some people have to start a new thread just to announce their presence on the Board, ansd another to announce they are leaving? There seems to be a plethora of these trival little threads saying "I'm here" or "Good night" lately.

I don't want to stiffle anyone, but isn't that a little excessive? I like to read interesting threads as much as anyone, but sorting through an endless list of hellos and goodbyes to seperate the wheat from the chaff is getting a little tedious.

And don't be offended. Feel free to fire back if you disagree. Who knows? You may just convince me that I'm being a dink.

You may, but I doubt it.

Yup, it's pretty trivial. Pointless in most cases. But I've started a few in my day, and have responded to most of the others. What's wrong with saying hello and goodbye to your friends?

Yup. There's an awful amount of chaff on the Board. Hellos and goodbyes. Pictures of people with too many sex organs. Fuck you, you're an idiot -- no, you're an idiot threads. People who will flirt with anyone who walks through the door (no one comes to mind, but they're out there, I'm sure).

Lots of chaff. But all the silly threads in the world don't prevent you from starting a thread of depth and substance. It's just easier said than done. Good luck. I'm waiting.....

Can you explain to me how starting a thread about how irritating the hello and goodbye threads are is any less trivial?

Everyone a little cranky today after the holiday? Smile, be happy! :D

My approach is I read the "meaningless" threads if I have time and I'm bored, or I skip them if I am just stopping in for a quick update. But they don't really bother me that much. I can read pretty quickly and I skim over the titles to the ones I'm not interested in. I like the serious threads, but I like the fun ones, too. Depends on my mood.

Only 30 shopping days until Christmas, in case any of you are interested. :D

It doesn't bother me for ppl to put these threads on a open Board. I'm a very friendly and happy person, and i like to tell my friends, hello, or good morning, and by the way, i have met alot of good friends on here.

Everyone has a right to post a thread of any subject. This is a open board, to express yourself, your likes, dislikes, to get other's opinions and so forth.

Wouldn't it be a boring world, if everyone thought the same way, or done the same things in life.

I always try to keep in mind, what is trivial to me, maybe very interesting to someone else. I can respect their feelings.

Oh well, i guess i'm the Dink

Good Morning Pandora

THE WIFE

P.S. Can't you tell I love him!!

I will not, do not, and can not look over her shoulder to read the posts, and I usually kick her off cause she is on the comp for hours at a time and that is the only time that she off it is when she is sleeping or when I kick her off.. but any ways I don't watch over her or read over her shoulder (it is from the side of the comp not over her shoulder) so all I have to say is STOP YOUR BITCHING AND WINING or else we are going to send you a WA.. WA.. WA.. WAMBULANCE. :D

E

NSW...yeah, I'm sure that is VERY annoying...Thank goodness I don't have to worry about THAT, no one in my family would consider this site...heehee

Anyway...I thought I'd clarify my position on this. No one said you can't come and post whatever you like. I'm all for that...what irritates me is that someone will post a thread, let's say "Good Morning", proceed to have a couple hour bantering session with those on the thread, and then post a whole other thread to announce their departure. Everyone who said goodbye to said individual on the second thread, was reading the first thread, why post a whole thread saying goodbye? You could just as well say goodbye on the first thread.

Personally, I skip them to begin with, because I rarely stick around long enough to have a "chat session" on the BB. I post, I read, I respond...that's about it. If I see something of particular interest, I may stick around, or check it frequently...those are few and far between though.

And yes, I'm a little bitchy about the holiday hangover I have...heehee...thanks for reminding me Cheyenne :)

My opinion on threads is simple, don't like them, DON"T READ them.

I know one of the posters who prompted this thread and to be honest, without him, this place is a little less bright.

Nitelight said it best, if you want deep, thought-provoking threads, post some.

Good lord Skibum, how else are you going to get 20,000 posts in a week

Hey, Skibum! Just thought I'd tell you that my lunch break here is over and now I have to head in to the office for a few hours to try to get my desk unburied. Good bye for now! (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Well, it's a pet peeve of mine, too, Skibum. But, I guess as everyone's already said, it's a free board. I usually dont' read the "hello", "goodbye" threads as I'm not much into chatting (like Sammyjo said) on the BB. If I want to chat, I'll IM the person. There's no need to have a two or three-way conversation in front of everyone. But... this is just my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback, guys.

It's not really that big a deal, just something that I have noticed lately. A new trend, shall we say? Nothing really wrong with it, just not my taste. But then again, what do I know. If Cyan or bobtoad feel the need to announce when they log on and when they leave, so be it. Just a matter of style I guess. Heaven knows I have little enough of that!

You know, I don't have a problem with these threads, other than the sheer numbers of them. Most people don't go back and look at page 2 or 3 where threads of substance seem to get pushed to so fast. I created a thread a week or so ago that was off the first page in 2 hours. Whether due to it being interesting or not, or simply because there were too many hi, bye, patryn is fake, or is my ass too big threads, who knows?

There are interesting threads that make one think out there, it just sometimes takes work to find them.

I was thinking about that, too KM...there are some real good threads on here, and I guarantee that I haven't seen some of them due to this exact problem.

Let's put this into perspective...what if we ALL posted "hello" and "goodbye" theads every single time we came online?

Only problem with speaking your mind Skibum, is it brings it out in droves...

Hello Siren and here were my posts...

Know what? I find this thread extremely humorous coming from
someone who devoted a whole thread to "come on, join in and have some chips"...really Siren, I've held my tongue for so long on this subject. You seem to start endless threads about telling others how to post, what to post, when to post. People come here for different reasons. Some people may NOT have anyone to turn to when they need help, advice, or just something to share. Some people view this site as a place to make friends, and when they do, they share anything and everything. What is the crime? You have shared any number of things that some would find meaningless or stupid or just plain nonsensical drivel. Why don't you just ignore them? Like I should have done here.

Next:

That's fine, stand by what you say...good for you.

However, the fact that you've made this, and however many other posts identical to this one, make you just as guilty of the same thing you are preaching about. Personally, I don't give a flying fuck if someone starts 12 threads in one day, that's their prerogative, just as it is yours, mine, and ours to read or not to read the post. If you don't like it, move on, don't start a whole thread bitching about how you don't like what people post. This attitude breeds hatred, it turns away new and old members. It starts petty arguments, it detracts from why we are all here in the first place. The fact that you posted this, makes you look like you need the very validation that you so detest in others. Look around you...some people are validating your opinion. And you seem to be reveling in it. Well, good for you...I'm so happy you have your validation now...I'm just wondering how long it will be until we see another post, similar to
this one, by the same author...one week? two? Oh and about the hair...nice try if you thought that was going to piss
me off.

Ok...now that we have that off our chests. On that thread, and this thread, I gave people every freedom to post anything they like...I don't have to like it, I don't have to agree with it, and I sure as hell can think it's as obnoxious as I want. If someone chooses to post "hello" and "goodbye" threads every single time they come online, fine. But, that doesn't make it any less obnoxious IN MY EYES. I wasn't speaking for you, and your cronies. Anyway, again, I will repeat what I've said in the past...post what you want, if I see fit, I will ignore it. I guess that makes me a hypocrite...if in fact, hypocrite has a new meaning.

Point out my hypocrisy in it's entirety and we can go from there. I told you then and I'm telling you now, the same thing. I never said a person could NOT post these types of threads...just saying what is obnoxious...if you had the reading comprehension of a 5 year old you probably could have figured that out. Oooops...one of my resolutions just broken...can I change the resolution so that it doesn't include trolls, either registered or not?

You may, but I doubt it.

No firing back here,,, I find it to be rather egotistical and lame.

Good grief,,, give it a break already,,,
