As the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) continues its investigation into the broadening pet health scare, new findings have emerged that make it clear that the human food supply chain could be negatively affected, along with the pet food supply.

Two new critical pieces of information were released this week. First, more foods have been added to the Menu Foods recall list because they were produced at the same time as the tainted food, creating a possibility of cross-contamination. For more information and a complete list of recalled foods, view this link.

Second, in addition to the expanded recall list, the FDA also announced that tainted wheat gluten and rice protein concentrate used in recalled pet food was also used to produce animal feed for poultry and swine. The FDA and USDA believe the likelihood of becoming ill after eating chicken or swine that were fed the contaminated products is very low.

I suppose to was bound to happen, but it's kinda frustrating that they are just now making these statements. I mean this dog food thing has been going on for weeks and weeks now!

It has taken them a long time to figure out just what they know now. The ingredients and the culprit are all supposed to be harmless so they are at a loss as to what the fuck is going on.

It almost makes me wonder if they are even on the right track now, but I hope they are. I did read that the levels where not high enough to explain the effects being seen. I am glad that the manufacturers have taken the precautions they have rather than taking any chances.
