I took the bike out for a therapy ride today. My father is sick and I haven't heard anything which can be good. (If he was truly in trouble I'm sure I would have heard.) Still I was and am worried.
My bike is also feeling neglected. I haven't rode it in the past couple of days.
I took off the windshield and fired up the bike. I geared up and climbed on. I headed up the coast for a bit, stopping only for gas along the way. The wind against me felt good and I was starting to relax. At the halfway point I turned around and headed back along the beach road. The view was great and things were absolutely perfect.
To get into my place I had to make a U-Turn and head back. This isn't a problem and I do it quite often. I get into the turn out and wait for an opening in traffic. When I catch a big one I let out the clutch and go into the U-Turn. That's when it happened. I could both feel and see my front tire sliding on the pavement. This is not a good thing. You wouldn't have been able to drive a needle up my ass with a sledge hammer. I didn't think about it, there was no time. My body went back in time to whe last time I rode and I grabbed some throttle even as I lightened the turn a bit. The bike straightened up and I could feel the front tire grabbing so I leaned back into the turn and made it without any further problem.
When I had parked the bike and changed I strolled back to where I had the problem. It took a bit of looking before I saw the problem. There was a nice thin coating of sand on the road.
Needless to say my mind was cleared and things had been put back into perspective.
