I had an unsettling dream this morning. I was standing next to a woman friend in the midst of a small group, and briefly rested my elbow on her shoulder. She recoiled as if she'd been slapped, and pushed my arm away. We have been friends for a long time, with plenty of casual touching and hugging. I woke up confused and hurt, trying to make sense of the dream. Maybe dreams were never meant to make sense.

Ugh, I’m sorry.
I hate it when I wake up from dreams and bad feelings about someone linger.

Are you feeling afraid she may reject you in someway?

I never think a dream is literal. I also think when we dream about a person, it usually isn't about that person but instead, that person is representing an aspect of you.

What does that woman mean to you? Is there a particular part of her personality that comes to mind when you think of her? When you think of those traits or what she means to you, does this bring to mind any part of you or your life?

When you dream about touching someone else, it can mean you are trying to make a connection with ---- what does this woman mean to you? The fact she's a friend and you were in a small group setting means (to my mind) intimacy, friendship, maybe something familiar within yourself?

Perhaps you want to get more personal with --- someone, something, maybe yourself? Does that sound weird? The recoil and pushing away isn't her rejecting you - because it's not about her. Perhaps it's about your fear / confusion / uncertainty about making a connection / reconnection? You aren't sure about delving deeper in to a more personal area?

I'm totally guessing. I wish I could go to dream school! We had a woman on local radio who did go to some dream academy and she would interpret dreams - so that's where I got the info (if you choose to believe it) that our dreams aren't generally literal. The people or objects in our dreams represent some part of us. She also mentioned our dreams were a way of working out the stuff in our brains that happened within a fairly short timeframe - so 1 - 3 days prior. Or an upcoming event within a few days.

Anyways. I hope you fell less unsettled soon.

OMG!!
You had a dream that you were me and that was my wife next to you!

I think dreams are our subconscious working things out or making us aware of things we can't process. For example, I had a horrible nightmare that woke me up, sobbing, about a brother dying in my arms. He died a few months later of suicide. I'm not sure why I keep dreaming about Johnny Depp, though. :)
