Personal Invasion; mail fraud & privacy violation

In the last six weeks or so, my husband and I have been experiencing a disturbing trend: our mail is disappearing. So far, we've had six bills, a bank statement, a couple of personal letters, and at least one package not reach us.

My husband's license plates were stolen off his car.

A collection agency, or someone claiming to call from one, is harassing us about a bogus bill for ambulance service we never needed or received.

I received a shipment of "high profile" books (all on sex or Nazis) from a book club I don't belong to; when I called, they told me *I* signed up for them by a direct mailing.

My husband just got a bill for a magazine we don't receive, and it was for a new order we'd allegedly filed.

I get an average of ten hang-up calls per day.

I am, in a word, pissed. Some fuckwit is apparently bagging our stuff, and not even for an understandable and typically weaselish reason like monetary gain. (Neither of the credit card accounts that have been security breached have shown any unauthorized activity.) So, does someone want to cause us anxiety of an ill-defined kind, without even stepping up to take credit for their efforts? Is some maniac gearing up to a full-fledged stalking event? Did a lazy mail carrier dump a day's mail because it was raining, and the rest is unfortunate coincidence? Is a disgruntled student lodging a protest against the grade they received in my class-and doing it in a highly unethical and deeply illegal way? Is somebody hubby fired or didn't hire seeking revenge for a perceived wrong?

I don't know; I may never know.

Mail fraud is a federal crime. Identity theft is penalized ever-more heavily. For the first time, I'm glad. All of a sudden, I realize how fucking easy it is for anyone who really wants to do it to locate you.

Seeing the "unregistered episode" last night just got me all inflamed about this shit again. Privacy violation is no joke. Mail fraud is no joke. Stalking or harassing someone isn't funny, it isn't clever, and it isn't something you deserve to get away with.

I hope you're outed and at the very least publicly humiliated, Unregistered.
I hope you're caught, whoever you are--person who's targetting hubby & I. And when you are, I intend to issue you one hell of an ass kicking. I'll be willing to take the jail time, just for the fucking satisfaction of it.

The same thing with the mail happend to us at home a few years ago. We rented a postbox in the Post Office and had our mail delivered to this post box and this seemed to have solved the problems. As for the rest, why don't you install a fake Security Camera (you can buy them in DIY stores) to give your house more of an 'watched' look. As for the phone, with some phone companies it is possible to get a re-dialling machine (for rent) that shows you the incoming numbers.

I hope you find out what's going on soon!

Halo :rose:

thats really worrying

get on to the police about it. have a informal chat with them and see what there opinions might be

they have seen this thing before i assume.

Is it happening to other neighbours or is it just you

look after yourselves:(

That is violation and quite unnerving.
Risia, I am sorry this is happening to you and your husband. I hope it ends, soon.

You're in my thoughts.:rose:

My first impession reading your post is that you are a victim of "Identity theft". I would be saving all those odd bills and contacting Social Security and the police very quickly! I would cancel all credit cards and get new cards with the billing address being the suggested P.O. box. You really need to get this stopped!

Rhumb:(

Baseball bats and boots Risia, thats what the little fucker deserves.

If You're a Victim

1, 2, 3 - Do these three things immediately!
  • Contact the fraud departments of each of the three major credit bureaus and report that your identity has been stolen. Ask that a "fraud alert" be placed on your file and that no new credit be granted without your approval.
  • For any accounts that have been fraudulently accessed or opened, contact the security departments of the appropriate creditors or financial institutions. Close these accounts. Put passwords (not your mother’s maiden name) on any new accounts you open.
  • File a report with your local police or the police where the identity theft took place. Get a copy of the report in case the bank, credit card company, or others need proof of the crime later on.

Lol. Sorry Killer just copping an attitude for Risia. And yes, I suppose I have, just in a psychological sense which is a little different from what she has had to deal with. Be well Killer.

Thanks for the support, y'all. And KM, thanks for the link. We're on it, from the legal angle. I've already talked to the police, contacted the Postal Inspector (as mail fraud is a federal crime, and they have their own police division), have dealt with the credit companies, and am in process of getting a PO box. Now, it's dealing with the anger and sense of violation that offers the most trouble for me.

You can get over or work through it. So I have been told anyway. You're loved, and that cannot be stolen.

Risia, you just wait till I get to watch please.

As so often said by an unknown

Be Well.
