Personal grovelling in threads

Okay, this is starting to get on my nerves just a bit. It seems that lately there has been an increase in direct person-to-person grovelling around here. I could name names, or even threads, but I'm not going to. I'm just going to say that I'm tired of people (most of whom are new to Lit) carrying out online scenes around here. I'm not talking about the kind of chitchat we all do, threatening each other and flirting when we're not in relationships. I'm talking about flat-out slavishness between established partners, expressed in public and off-topic to the thread in which the blather goes on.

There is more than one person who is guilty of this. It has happened in more than one thread, and even more than one board. But it seems worse over here. I'm tired of it mucking up the otherwise mostly rational conversation I'm trying to follow in threads. Argh.

Maybe it helps that I'm a mom. I've learned to ignore annoying behavior and I've learned how to create it. ;-)

If someone's drama is bothering you, why don't you take your own advice and just put that person on ignore? I have no one on ignore personally, but I sure can scroll past those posters who I don't give a tinker's damn for. And I know damn good and well that there are posters here who do the same thing as far as I'm concerned.

It's easy to ignore people who don't matter to you. You know that very well, etoile.

Yeah, I know. In fact, as I just mentioned in another thread, I purposely don't use ignore lists online because I like seeing what people come up with.

I guess I just saw a particular exchange of dominating/grovelling and got a little ranty about it. I'm logging off and going to bed now, though.

But yes drama is no fun. Especially when it is disruptive. Best is to have the parties deal with each other offline (off the site, say have a chat on yahoo or something) and see if they can work it out amongst themselves. It can get tedious and disruptive, that much is true.
