I see quite a few people with various blogging sites, most common ones seeming to be blogspot/blogger (same thing, part of Google), wordpress, Tumblr, etc.

To the people who have and actively use them, rate them on a scale of A/B/C/F? How are they with respect to intrusiveness? Pop up ads, interstitials, etc. How are they with respect to potentially being used to talk about erotica? Do you put full blown erotica stories on them without being banned, etc.?

I suppose there's a theme to my questions, which is "how are they" and "Will I find out the hard way that site "X" or "Y" gets in the way on erotic type content?

I noticed a lot of them seem to take a long time to load, but at the same time, most seem to have lots of big high resolution pictures posted too. Thanks in advance.

Dreamwidth is pretty good on privacy stuff and protecting adult content. It was built on the same engine as LiveJournal (though I think they've since diverged) and a lot of people moved there after one too many badly-handled censorship fiascos on LJ.

Thanks for the tip. It does look good!

I love Wordpress and have never had any problems. I'd give it an A. There's not really anything that I want that I can't get (besides an audience...). But I post a lot of porn and erotica and no one's complained yet.

I got one I call MORONIANS vs THE SMARTIANS but aint nuthin on it.

I work on Blogger. I tried Wordpress but I couldn't figure it out, it seemed complicated to me, maybe because I'd got used to Blogger.

I find Blogger very intuitive. They seem happy to allow a lot of adult themed material as long as you tick the box 'Adult material' - then a frontpage comes up to warn people who go to your blog and they have to click on 'I understand and wish to continue'. I don't post highly explicit material, though, just saucy and links to explict stories I have reviewed.

They do invite you to join people's Google circles and stuff, but not in an intrusive way. I think I ought really to do it, it spreads the word well.

What was it you wanted to use the blog for? I know a lot of writers think they have to have a Facebook page and blog in order to promote their work, but I think a blog probably ought to be a space where you want to write. If you want to promote your work more visibly, I think there are other better ways of doing so.

Thanks Naoko, I appreciate the post. In my case, I doubt I'll ever bother trying to actually sell anything, this is all just living vicariously through my own erotica... ;)

I just need somewhere to post the few stories I have. I got irritated by something here, which means I need somewhere else to put them, and I wasn't sure if the blogging sites wanted the full blown explicit stories or not.

I'm not all that old, but I'm a cranky old man ahead of my time. :D
